As someone who loves watching the old reruns of Thundarr the Barbarian at 1am I always think about how a D&D game would be.

I love that old fantasy feel, and I feel I was born just a bit to late to enjoy what I consider to be real "epic" fantasy. The style of that era just calls to me.

Are there any worlds, settings, or such that fit this theme? Either first party or third party? Preferably for 3.5?

Also, Princess Ariel was one of my first crushes as a kid...

Dark Sun. Totally has that post-apocalyptic thing going for it.

Classic D&D is gonzo in the extreme. Look at stuff like Arduin or CSIO or even Blackmoor; the base assumption is that the D&D world is a post-apocalyptic Thundar-verse.

The 1E DMG had conversion information for Gamma World (aka Mutant Future) and Boot Hill (cowboys), the 3E DMG has futuristic weaponry, and BECMI D&D had more than one god empowered by the radiation from a crashed alien spaceship (IANMTU (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IAmNotMakingThisUp)).

Grabbing a copy of d20 Modern/Future (or some of the mini-games that Dungeon/Polyhedron used to do - Iron Lords of Mars, Mecha Crusade, etc.) and kitbashing the things in there into D&D should be a cinch. Failing that the Conan RPG from Mongoose, although BRP rather than d20, should be good.

Edit: also, mandatory Korgoth of Barbaria (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_t605Th-QI) link
