View Full Version : Vote up a power (power complete!)

Welcome to the least ambitious voting thread on the boards (that I can think of.) This thread aims to produce a single power, for an existing class. The idea is to do a massive amount of work for almost no payoff. It will probably be pretty lame.

The first vote is for what class will get the power. I am limiting this to 4e classes that have been officially released by Wizards of the Coast (as in, not only in online previews.) Voting ends at midnight tonight, unless I decide to
go to bed early, in which case it ends whenever I wake up tomorrow morning.

Paladin needs more love.

No one's voting, so I'm extending the deadline. How long? Who knows.

Spellscarred!

I don't know what that is, but it sounds more awesome than any of the others.

EDIT: See that? I could have broken the tie, I could have chosen. But no! I chose to make it a three way tie! Tremble at my voting! For I have doomed you to an eternal purgatory of nonvote!

Voting up a singe power is kinda pointless.

I'd prefer "vote up a build type"

e.g. War wizard, Brawny Rogue, Assault Swordmage, et cetera.

Votes being:

1) Class (Rogue, Wizard, etc.)

2) Base Ability Score (Dex, Con, Int, should be different than main. No dex for rogues)

3) Coherent theme (Knockback, Shifting, hitting multiple targets, etc.)

4) Flavour.

I realize it's pointless. That's kind of why I'm doing it.

Very well then... Spellscarred.

Paladin, for great justice.

Paladin, specfically Strength, not enough love for the Strength Pally.

Oh, let's say Paladin.

Artificer!

...What do you mean that's not allowed?

In that case, Paladin. BTW, what's a spellscarred? From the Forgetten Realms guide, I take it?

Alteran

It is a multiclass-only class from the Forgotten Realms guide. It's a bit odd, since it can't be your base class. I've never tried it myself, so I don't know how it works out.

Paladin, for great justice.

Thanks solely to this quote, I, too, vote for Paladin.

So it looks like we're going for a Paladin power. The next vote is for what type of power it will be. It will close Friday at midnight (again, EST.) Vote for 1:

Encounter|

Utility (encounter)|1
Utility (daily)|
Utility (at-will)|4

What about At-Will Utilities? Because some classes have them (p66 PHB for an example).

I could break a tie here!

Or I could tie up another one!

Encounter Utility!

Why not At-Will Utility.

Votes are tallied, and the winner is At-will Utility. Fortunately, Martial Power has a whole bunch of those for me to look at as models.

So onto what will either be the last or second to last vote:

Glooble Glistencrist

Ok. Looks like I'm making a Level 10 At-will Paladin utility power. Should be done soon.

Radiant Rejuvenation
Paladin Utility 10
On a particularly powerful strike, your sword glows with Holy Power. Your injured comrades, seeing this, are granted the strength to fight on.
At-will, Divine, Radiant
Immediate reaction
Ranged 10
Trigger: You score a critical hit with a power with the radiant keyword.
Effect: All bloodied allies in range that can see you can spend a healing surge.

Shadow_Elf

Its hard to judge this... I don't believe there's precedence for an at-will utility that is not well... utile? (feel free to prove me wrong here) This is a combat-based at-will utility, so its hard to judge. My gut instinct, however, is overpowered. However, the fact that it has to be a radiant power and the allies have to be bloodied sort of limits it...

In other words, I have no idea if this is too powerful or not useful enough :smallannoyed:...

Glooble Glistencrist
2008-12-14, 09:39 PM
That's kinda how I felt about it. I added the bloodied because it seemed to powerful without it.

Meek
2008-12-14, 09:50 PM
It definitely cannot be an At Will.

Otherwise it is fine as an encounter ability. The wording could use some work. Let me see...

Radiant Rejuvenation Paladin Utility 10
On a particularly powerful strike, your sword glows with Holy Power. Your injured comrades, seeing this, are granted the strength to fight on.
Encounter, Divine, Healing
Immediate Reaction Close Burst 10
Trigger: You score a critical hit with a power with the radiant keyword.
Effect: All bloodied allies in burst that can see you can spend a healing surge.

Ranged was wonky with the power, Close Burst illustrates the range far better, At Will is too much for a power like this (utility powers that are at-will are things like the Rogue's personal range skill boosters).

Mando Knight
2008-12-14, 10:03 PM
How about instead of "spend a healing surge," you use "recover a number of hit points equal to your Wisdom Modifier"?

Glooble Glistencrist
2008-12-15, 12:16 AM
I was thinking temporary hitpoints, but then it just seemed like what was the point?

Maybe if it's just all allies that can see you gain temporary hit points equal to your charisma modifier. Just so it's a viable at-will.

if not - I tried.

Meek
2008-12-15, 09:47 PM
Temporary hit points do indeed qualify it for an at-will utility. Here you go!

Radiant Rejuvenation Paladin Utility 10
On a particularly powerful strike, your sword glows with Holy Power. Your injured comrades, seeing this, are granted the strength to fight on.
At Will, Divine
Immediate Reaction Close Burst 10
Trigger: You score a critical hit with a power with the radiant keyword.
Effect: All bloodied allies in burst that can see you gain 5 + your Wisdom modifier temporary hit points.

EDIT: Made it 5 instead of 3. I think the conditions and the restrictions make it possible.

Glooble Glistencrist
2008-12-15, 10:04 PM
I''m good with that.
