View Full Version : Ronove's Far Hand attack, why is the Bull rush side effect so weak?

Okay, I've been looking back at the Binder.

I like that Ronove's monk abilities fit: (page 45 of Tome of Magic)
1) (Feather fall to emulate the Slow Fall ability),
2) Unarmed Strike Monk damage + Improved Unarmed Strike (plus Binders are prioficient with simple weapons)
3) Sprint: +10 speed (monks are fast I get that)
4) All melee attacks are magic for overcoming DR (nifty) and later Cold Iron.

The Far Hand ability is weird:
The basic use is like the Mage Hand spell with increasing Str score.

It has a Strength Score equal to effective Binder level.

So far so good:
The attack form is useable 1/5 rounds.
It deals 1d6 (auto hit, but damage never goes up so that makes me sad):
Then causes a Bush Rush.

The issue is the Strength score modifier +2 is used for the Bull Rush.
Example, a Level 1 Binder acting all Monk-like uses it deals 1d6 damage, but his Bull rush is -3 +1d20 versus the opponents Str mod +1d20.

By level 10, you only have a +2 bonus +1d20... +7 +1d20 at level 20...

So the ability starts sucky and stays sucky.

Is there a typo somewhere? Was it supposed to say Strength bonus +2?
Why would they make a Vestige that stays mediocre?

Ronove's Far hand is probably one of the few things I actually dislike about binders. I don't know what they were thinking when they wrote the description, but it really doesn't make any sense. As far as I know there hasn't been an errata covering it. it just sucks as written
