Custom avatars?

I see many people with custom avatars but i have two disadvantages in i cant do anything relatively artistic and 2 dunno how to do em. Anyone here do them for people? trying make a headshot of a dwarf with only patches of hair for a beard (my character i play is a dwarf but nearly all his beard was burned off.) anyone help?
