Hello, I have (obviously) decided to make a thread in which a playgrounder can post their dream 40k army list, and where it can be critiqued.

Anything goes, as long as it follows the rules and is 2000 points or less. :smallbiggrin:

So to him, me and any other new players, this thread's question essentially amounts to "What is the army you would like to have and play one day?".
And to everyone else, probably, just "What is your favourite 2000 points army you like to play with best?".

First, it is flatly impossible to build my dream army with a mere 2000 points; my DREAM army is more like three or four thousand. Or five (isn't the Thunderhawk gunship something like 900 points all by its lonesome?). But here's what I've come up with for that points total (White Scars Space Marines):

Also as much depends on the army I'm fighting as what I happen to think is cool and effective. If I know I'm going against Imperial Guard or Orks, for example, I'm likely to dump the Landspeeders/Assault Marines in favor of a Vindicator or Whirlwind ... so's I can blow big chunks outta their Troops choices.

I meant "your dream 2000 point army," so that it would be playable in a normal game.

My Dream dream army would include several mantas, and probably total to well over 10,000 points... I don't know how much the aircraft cost, pointwise.

It sounds like what you are wanting is basically just a normal every day 2000 point list. In which case I don't see why we need another thread since people are already posting theoretical and in-use lists in the main 40k thread.

Used this list in my last game against Tau (Dawn of War / Annihilation) and massacred them (don't have the exact list with me, but it was 2000pts). Sure four tac squads were wiped out but hey - I killed 15 Kroot in one shot from the Thunderfire, and three crisis suits with a drop pod.

I'd say you should change this to be a dream 10,000 point army, or hell, make it a 40k point army. :smallbiggrin: Anyways, if it's supposed to be a "dream army", it should be a slight bigger than what most people play with regularly.

- a Slaanesh-marked Chaos Sorcerer with either terminator armour, bike, steed or jumppack/wings, that Leash of... something power, familiar, another power (Doombolt, Chaoswind or Warptime, probably)
- the Plague Marine squads would be up to 6 marines and 1 champion
- the normal marine squad would count 2 more marines (16 models total - Khorne's favoured number twice)
- a squad of 8 Thousand Sons with a Sorcerer (Lightning of Tzeentch power, or whatever it is called in English)
- a team of Chaos Terminators, led by a Champion with chainfist, a twinlinked autocannon and some other equipment (including some icon)
- powerweapons/fists for all champions in the army
- at least one more Fast Attack squad (probably bikes)
- a Great Demon
- 1-2 packs of Lesser Demons
- a Defiler

As for your list, evil_d4_swarm... well, I'm new to the game, so my opinion is probably of little worth, and I have little knowledge about the Tau in the first place, but one thing that immediately occurred to me is that your army shares a trait with my army list as I originally posted it in the main thread - it has only two Troops choices. Won't this make holding objectives and winning the game rather difficult? An opponent could focus his fire on your two Firewarrior squads, and as soon as they are gone, the best you can hope for is a draw...

2 hive tyrants, one with wings and 2 x scything talons, other with scything talons and devourers.

6 genestealers - no upgrades

5 carnefixes - various upgrades

Dream army... I planned on collecting an all-flying Nid army - winged Rippers, winged Warriors, winged Hive Tyrant, Gargoyles, Haridan... Then I found out that giving wings to Rippers and Warriors causes them to become Fast Attack, so I'd be limited to three gargoyles/warriors/rippers, total. Damnit, GW! That would have been awesome! :smallannoyed:

Apart from that... a dream 2000 points? I don't know if I have one. Any army list can have incredible models on the tabletop, and that is really what I'd care about most in an army. So really, any army list that shows a strong theme and looks good would be my dream army list.
