Dec. 17) -- A rat believed to be extinct for 11 million years, a spider with a foot-long legspan, and a hot pink cyanide-producing "dragon millipede" are among the thousand newly discovered species in the largely unexplored Mekong Delta region.
The region, including parts of Vietnam and five other countries, is home to 1,068 species found between 1997 and 2007, according to a World Wildlife
Fund report released this week.

Wow, that's gotta be one huge spider.

Look up some of the spiders in australlia. They can catch birds in their webs. And eat them. Big across as a human hand (that's body and legs but...) so not quite as big but... BIRDS??

I love it when they find supposedly extinct species. Although out of those three I'm most curious about the millipede.

Also do you have a link with more info?

Its bright pink. And the rat is cute.

South America's got those, too! (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lWS04I80L3Q) (note: do not watch if you have any particular affection for mice).

Hmm...a poison producing dragon-millipede? I must find this and add it to my army...

The spider I can do without. Perhaps I will sic my dragonpede on it...

I saw this on TV. That spider looks as if it has the Fiendish template. And I wouldn't want to meet the cyanide millipede either.

These are cool, but when will they get to work finding trilobites and pushmi-pullyus and arrowhawks, eh?
