Overseer Controversy Overshadows Elections.

This morning the remains of our beloved Overseer, Rogue Nine, were discovered in his office along with the remains of a Wolf. Shocking? Maybe. But not half as shocking as the fact that Rogue Nine wasn’t human! That’s right. Our overseer was an Artificial Intelligence based upon a man that came to power at some point in the last 90 years (investigations continue).
This is, initially, quite off-putting and a backlash should only have been expected. Not only are many (of the very few remaining) people boycotting elections to replace Rogue Nine but today the two front running candidates for lynching were ex-employees of the Offices of the Overseer.
Mustiado and Shadowydragon both worked under the overseer before the plague and were forced to move to more essential work when the population declined. This didn’t save them the questions of the crowd though. Both stood all day with their necks in the noose. Not allowed to sit. Not allowed to drink. Just questioned. Over and over about their working relationship to the Overseer.
“Did you know he was an android?”
“What work did he have you do?”
“Did you know he was an android?”
“How often did he get you to make coffee?”
“DID YOU KNOW HE WAS AN ANDROID?”
Both remained admirably calm under pressure in a voting session that lasted longer than usual (hence the later-than-usual evening edition) but eventually Shadowydragon became impatient and snapped…
“Fine! Fine! I knew. OK? Is that what you want to hear? I knew he was an android. I oiled his gearbox when he got rusty and plug him into charge at night. Ok. Now stop with the ridiculousness. The real question here is Who’s the wolf? Look at him. Look at that moustache! He’s a wolf. Clearly a wolf!”
In what may have been his last desperate attempt to save himself Mustiado looked up. “Funny.” He croaked, nearly passing out. “He seems to be holding up to today’s abuses pretty well.”
What a manoeuvre! Suddenly the crowd saw it. One man slumped and nearly falling over, another stood proud and erect like nothing unusual had happened to him. A verdict was quickly reached and Mustiado let down.
Shadowydragon was lynched with the same dignity that had betrayed him and was thankfully found to be a wolf. The question remains though. Was Mustiado really a human? Or was he just a wolf who was better at pretending? After all, if one wolf kept an android in power…why not two?
