Being afraid of the dark despite having darkvision is hilarious. I love that idea.

I played a half-orc cleric with this exact description. Despite having darkvision, he would always prepare a ton of light spells in case he was ever in a particularly... shadowy situation. I'm pretty sure the first magic item he ever got was an everburning torch.

Oddly, and completely coincidentally, he was not the only character in the party with a fear of the dark. So at least he had some company.
