I truly hope this was the exception and not the standard you expect from the DM. But if it is the standard, why are you gaming with them instead of with another group? Assuming it's an exception, I'd find a tactful method of letting the DM know it wasn't fun. Hopefully that will be enough to get back to gaming. Good luck!
