[1ed-3.5ed] Gorellik becoming the Animal Lord of Hyenas and hyaenodons?

Since many of the WotC previous editions board members migrated here, I am hoping some of you remember this guy. If not, you can read his wikipedia entry HERE.

After about half a year of working on my website, I am taking this vacation time to at least finally finish the deities and other powers section of my homebrewed campaign world's/cosmology's website. I just came across this declining deity, who for some reason he caught my interest, as well as making me feel emotional for his story. So while reading his entry, and how he is becoming more feral/hyena like I was suddenly reminded of the Cat Lord and the Animal Lords, and how they deal and mix with their patron animals. Then I got the idea, is he becoming the Animal Lord of hyenas and hyena-related creatures? Can a deity become/degenerate to/convert to a completely different kind of patron/divine being such as an animal lord?

And are there already animal lords for each animal, or are there some vacant positions/animals?

If the answers are yes, then could this be worked into an adventure/campaign somehow?!

I"m going to state the obvious. The D&D cosmology can be changed to fit your own world, so I don't see a problem about him becoming the Animal Lord.

Having him degenerate into the Hyena Lord might be fun. That said I still like the image of Gorellik as a decayed king squatting in his shattered palace somewhere in the wilderness of Pandemonium with no servants but scores of mangy hyenas, and no thought in his mind except what the ever-howling winds bring. Kind of a cross between "I coulda' been a contender" and a crazy cat lady.

On the matter in hand, I wonder if there's a feudalism among the Animal Lords, or if there are turf wars over who gets what. I mean, would the Hyena Lord be distinct from the Wolf Lord, or a rival, or an avatar, or what? Come to that, is it the Lizard Lord or the Amphibian Lord who looks after the spiritual needs of axolotls? Who would get the Platypii and other monotremes? Is the Alpaca Lord distinct from the Llama Lord, or are both merely aspects of the Camel Lord? And what about fusions like griffons, owlbears (and ducksnakes)?

Gaaaaah! I'm going back to Ysgard where the living is easy, and the answer to any question is generally "Hit it with your axe!"
