[3.5, Iron Kingdoms] Can an Arcane Mechanik be a Specialist?
Alright, so I'm playing a homebrew setting with some friends, but the game itself is kind of a mixter-maxter of Homebrew and sourcebook stuff (We're open to material from most sourcebooks, basically. For instance, one of our characters is a Bodger from the Iron Kingdoms setting.)
I'm creating an Arcane Mechanik for the setting, and I wanted to know one thing about them:
Given that Arcane Mechaniks are basically Wizards in the way they cast and prepare spells, would they be allowed to become Specialists and Focused Specialists? It's just a bit of minor confusion, because as far as I've seen, Arcane Mechaniks are basically Wizards who get more skillpoints and have more of a focus on Craft skills, while being limited to casting up to 6th level spells from the Wizard/Sorceror list.
My DM's ruled that it'd be okay, but I wanted to hear other player's opinions just to see if it would actually be okay.
It's probably a stupid question, but the only stupid question is one that hasn't been asked.

I play IK, and I think it'd be fine. I'd allow it in our game and we're sticking pretty close to the IK rules as written.
I don't have the Amk spell list in front of me, though. If I were you I'd look at it carefully and make sure that there is a school you can take as your forbidden school without messing up your mechaniking potential. Off the top of my head I suspect you could forbid Necomrancy with no problems at all, but like I said I don't have the spell list in front of me.
apI just published my first novella, Lúnasa Days, a modern fantasy with a subtle, uncertain magic.
You can grab it on Kindle or paperback.
