    Default [Vestige] Beltet, the Librarian

In Marranarch, binders work differently. Instead of binding vestiges, they bind aspects of the gods themselves.

Due to this, binders in Marranarch cannot bind vestiges that are not within one step of their alignments.

    Beltet, the Librarian
    Greater God
    Symbol: Open book
    Alignment: Neutral
    Portfolio: Knowledge, Maintenance, Invention, Merchants
    Domains: Knowledge, Magic, Craft, Trade

    Vestige Level: 3
    Binding DC: 21
    Special Requirement: Yes

History: Beltet is the father of Helifax and Helios, the twin Gods of Time. He is relentless in his pursuit of knowledge and knows far more about the world and the planes than most other gods do, much less mortals. As such, his clerics tend to multiclass as diviners and enter the divine oracle prestige class since Beltet is all about aquiring knowledge.

Beltet is neutral because he frequently does actions that some would consider intrinsically evil for the purpose of discovering their cause and effects. Similarly, he does a lot of actions for the same reason that are intrinsically good.

Special Requirement: You must place a book within the bounds of Beltet's seal. The book is not used up in the summoning process, nor does it move from where you placed it, despite the manner of Beltet's appearance.

Manifestation: The book you placed within the seal opens, and an unseen hand flips through the pages. About halfway through, a kindly old man in half-moon glasses and wizard's robes fades into existance, picks up the book, and speaks in a quiet whisper.

Sign: You cannot speak louder than a whisper while bound to Beltet.

Influence: Beltet is eternally hungry for new knowledge and organization. You must either idenitfy or research (with Knowledge or Gather Information checks, as appropriate) any strange occcurence you witness. This includes most monsters and unique magical powers.

    Granted Abilities
Jack-of-All-Trades: You are considered to have .5 ranks in all skills. This allows you to use trained-only skills as if you were trained.

Beltet's Knowledge: You gain a bonus on all Knowledge checks equal to your Effective Binder Level.

Cat's Curiosity: You gain a bonus on Gather Information checks equal to one-half your Effective Binder Level.

Gift of Tongues: You can speak, read, understand, and write all languages spoken by creatures within 30 feet of you.

First, I'm guessing this god prefers archivst's to normal Clerics.

Second, He's a very iffy bind, and wouldn't be used very often.

Third, He seems by flavor something a Wizard would like, but in many ways would be better for a bard. Perhaps an ablity that can be used in battle?

This vestige seems quite a bit weaker than most other level three binds. It could stand another spell like ability, even if it is not combat related. Also, the half skill point is a bit confusing. Maybe just the ability to use skills as if trained?

The half-skill point thing is exactly as the Jack-of-all-Trades feat.

I'm considering another ability, but not sure what.

Beltet, despite being a greater god, rests most of his power with his knowledge, not his combat prowess or sneakiness.

    Suggestions?

    I'll second that its underpowered.

All it does, basically, is let you use all knowledges with a bonus equal to your EBL. The Gather Info bonus is nice, but it takes far too long to use (actually, putting the need to use it in its influence is a bit of a stretch, since you won't be bound that long), and the Gift of Tongues, while nice, is only situationally useful.

Possibly give an active-use insight bonus to something (Immediate action, +something to next attack, save, or check, once every 5 rounds?
Last projects, from years back: Lesser Disciplines (Tome of Battle). Also, Never Behind the Curve (multiclassing).

Some of my current work is under the name IGTN on D&D Wiki

    perhaps something like:

    Penatrating question:
Once per day, you may ask a creature you could talk to normally a single, deliberate question. That creature must succeed either a sense motive check or a bluff check, whcihever is higher, against a DC of 10+your effective binder level.

If they fail they must anwser the question as truthfully as it is possible for them to do so, to the full extent that your question asks. If you attempt to ask more than one question with your Penetrating Question, only the first one is anwsered truthfully, other questions are anwsered normally.

This may only be used in a situation where the other creature can understand you and is capable of paying at least some attention to the conversation (aka, not in combat)

The truthful anwser can not be a cleverly disguised half truth.

example: party is trying to get by a roper

Will you attack us if we go by you, if we give you orc corpses to eat?

roper: No, but when you come back, if i am still hungry, i might attack you.

Sorry i dont know the rules of binding too much.

    Tis Halcyon Dax! Forsooth!
