D&D makes people insane and turns them into devil worshippers.
no I'm not saying it does. I'm wondering if there is any basis to the claims D&D is evil. is there a certain part of it that just gets massively misinterpreted?(such as deity worship and magic) or are all the arguments baseless and require perverting the textin order for it to be evil in any way.

Re: D&D makes people insane and turns them into devil worshippers.
Dark Dungeons Law. At a certain character level in Dungeons & Dragons games, Dungeon Masters begin teaching the players real magic. Unfortunately, no gamer has ever been able to determine which level this would be, and – strangely – the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide have absolutely no information on the matter. Of course, it has to be at some level, right? After all, the Christian fundamentalists who presented this information would never go against their religion by bearing false witness, would they?

Re: D&D makes people insane and turns them into devil worshippers.
That's an easy one.
"A good person doesn't know about evil things."
This is, of course, wrong, but somebody who believes that obviously wouldn't know that, now now would they?
By that rationale, D&D contains demons. It has stats for demons. Sure... the players are fighting AGAINST evil (in most campaigns), but that doesn't matter. The game still contains it so it's automatically evil. (According to those sorts of people.)
Alternatively, being inside so much is evil. People should be out doing wholesome activities, like playing sports, doing something productive or going to church. (Again, this isn't my opinion at all, I hate sports and never go to any sort of a church)
I feel bad for the people who think like that.Last edited by Thajocoth; 2009-04-08 at 05:51 PM.

It is possible that people do not understand the media and complain about the games they do not play.

Re: D&D makes people insane and turns them into devil worshippers.
i tthink the fourth point is actually valid but the others aren't. however a lot of divine spells seem consistent with the way God is described in Christian religion.
and here's my arguement against magic in games being evil. first off it's fake and unless your kid gets way too into it or can't tell the difference between reality and imagination it's fine. secondly a lot of disney classics have magic in them so if you're complaining about magic you're being a hypocrite.(unfortunately most people couldn't care less and don't seem to notice their hypocrisy)Last edited by Mystic Muse; 2009-04-08 at 06:07 PM.

Give a player a fish, and he’ll probably try to sell it to an NPC fisherman.
Teach a player to fish, and next week he’ll show up with the book, “The Complete Adventuring Fisherman”. He’ll start hunting for some monstrous leviathan to catch and enslave, and he’ll be dual-wielding two fishing poles.
