1001 Boss Themes (That Are Not One Winged Angel)
Anyway, many of you know that I have a prediliction to playing music to set the mood at a table, particularly during "Boss" fights.
Since I don't want to completely annoy you, I've decided to set up a thread where you cast out your ideas for themes to play when a suitably epic battle comes along.
Rules of Engagement:
1. Besides the music itself, put a context where you think it would be best used (ie, against what kind of opponent, and/or in what kind of battlefield).
2. It cannot be One Winged Angel. Anyone who puts this up will be eaten by tribbles.
Now, to break the ice:
1. Red Lucifer Rising (Demons/devils)
2. Champion Cynthia (evil magician)
3. Zero Gravity (Angel, Primordial)My Homestuck role is Thane of Space of the Land of Insanity and Frogs.
The Malkavians would be proud.

I'm just going to copy and paste my "Boss Battle Collection" playlists. There's a single mention of your banned song in there, but I hope that the volume of good stuff I have will outweigh that.

Re: 1001 Boss Themes (That Are Not One Winged Angel)
This is the best boss theme I ever used:
8. Dvorak - New World Symphony - 4th Movement
I may not have linked to the right video as I don't have sound at work. Anyway, this is big, powerful, and ominous. I especially enjoyed it because there are other variations of the song that can be used throughout the game (yay recurring villains). Blind Guardian's The Gates of Moria is a straightfoward heavy metal version of this song. Rhapsody's The Wizard's Last Rhyme (I think) also borrows heavily, but devaites a littlem ore than BG. I've encountered the song in techno too, but can't remember where at the moment. If you like what I have to say, please check out my GMing Blog where I discuss writing and roleplaying in greater depth.

10. In the Dark of the Night
Against a lich boss, who took the Nightmare Spinner PRC, and relies primarily on spells that require will saves."Reach down into your heart and you'll find many reasons to fight. Survival. Honor. Glory. But what about those who feel it's their duty to protect the innocent? There you'll find a warrior savage enough to match any dragon, and in the end, they'll retain what the others won't. Re: 1001 Boss Themes (That Are Not One Winged Angel)
I'm not numbering, because by the time this post is up, someone will have already beaten my numbers.
I can't link to it, because it wasn't recorded, but a bunch of people in my orchestra class arranged Britney Spears' Toxic for strings, and it sounded like it could be a boss theme. It sounded like a theme for fighting some sort of undead or unnatural creature.
Threnody to The Victims of Hiroshima by Krzysztof Penderecki (WARNING: Do not have speakers on at high volume!) sounds like a battle against an abomination, or something that violates reality with its existence, like some sort of Great Old One; or taking place on some sort of nightmare realm, like the Far Realm, or some layer of the Abyss. It's utterly terrifying and unnerving.
Technical Difficulties, by Julien-K, is my boss theme for fast-paced fights, especially against constructs (heh, oxymoron).
Banquet of Madness, from Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, is good for battles against the BBEG, or any other suitable high-caliber fight.
Despite the oxymoronic title, Order of the Demon, from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, sounds fitting for powerful devils.
This. The all-out, no-holding-back, give-everything-because-everything's-on-the-line final battle. Fate of the world, and all that jazz.
Navras, by Juno Reactor, for confrontational battles, like against BBEG. Use sparingly.
Shostakovich, Symphony No. 5 Mvt. 4, for The War Sequence.
If There Were Any Other Way, for tragic battles, like against an enemy that was a friend, or something like that.

Re: 1001 Boss Themes (That Are Not One Winged Angel)
15. Danger. Especially nice for battles against overwhelming force.
16. The Oracle. I would say this is nice for deeply unsettling foes. The boss who got this theme was an ancient, demonic, soul-stealing lich. Occult beasts and evil, cultish wizards fit the bill nicely. It could also be used for a wizard's duel of some sort.
17. Meridian Dance. A very good tune to get the heart racing. Best played, I think, in fights where everything is on the line. It could also suit an epic dual between evenly matched warriors.Awesome Avatar by Shattersnap.

Re: 1001 Boss Themes (That Are Not One Winged Angel)
You could number these, but I don't see the point given that it's messed up so far anyway.
Scrambled Eggman, the Project Chaos remix of the Sonic 3 & Knux Boss theme.
Malicious Fingers, the remix of S3&K's (not quite-) final boss music.
Or The Doomsday, the Chaos remix of the Doomsday Zone theme.
The Black Knight, theme and variations from FE 9 & 10 (and one variation used for Brawl)
To Challenge Ashnard, parts A and B; from FE 9.

Re: 1001 Boss Themes (That Are Not One Winged Angel)
I love these threads. I discover so much great music every time they pop up.
22. Prelude to War (Useful to play when preparing for an epic battle where there is a lot on the line. Probably more useful when there's more of a military-ish overtone to the whole situation, like if two armies were battling it out.)
23. Storming New Caprica (It takes a little while to get going, but it's definitely a song that puts you in a mood to do something epic. I'd probably use this for an important battle, either the final confrontation, or a definite hinging point in the story.)
24. Fight Night (Not really a song to play for an epic confrontation, but it's something that works for an earlier encounter, when the story is starting to pick up.)
25. Mandala in the Clouds (Again, it takes a bit to get to the good parts, but it's definitely a song that should play during an important battle.)[ There was a signature here. It's gone now. ]
