Well this was... unexpected
http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/gi-joe/trailer
Erm, guys?
Is it just me... or does this look actually... you know... good?
Have I lost the plot completely, or am I actually thinking about paying money to go and see this when it comes out?
When did this maddness happen?!

Re: Well this was... unexpected
I plan on going to see it. I am a fan of the comics and the cartoon was great while I was a kid. I honestly don't expect this to be a great representation of GIJoe. I do think it will be a good action movie. I am sure I will be shaking my head numerous times at what happens to characters I like and trying to figure out where it all went wrong. But as I said I will go see it and I think I will be entertained if I can ignore how it destroys continuity.

Re: Well this was... unexpected
It's just you.
Really. This looks like not a lot of people are going to want to see the adventures of crazy HALO-looking armoured guys leaping through trains and dodging missiles.
Think about how well Dragonball: Evolution and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chin-Li did. Not very. This appears to be more of the same type of film. The FX didn't really do it for me. They looked cartoonish, which in a supposed action flick isn't always a boon.
Now, while the GI Joe cartoon had utterly outlandish plots and total insanity from many of the characters, the craziness was in the weapons and plots, not super-powered combat action.
I predict a poor showing for this one. I think they missed the point pretty drastically. I've also seen the Cobra Commander design...it's...well: http://www.toplessrobot.com/2009/03/..._commander.php

Yeah, I'm not a fan of G.I. Joe at all, so presumably I'm the target demographic (that's how it works now, right?) and this looks ridiculously absurd to me, almost comical in its execution.

Blood-red were his spurs i' the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat,
When they shot him down on the highway,
Down like a dog on the highway,And he lay in his blood on the highway, with the bunch of lace at his throat.

What's even sadder is that I honestly think, after seeing GI Joe: Resolute, that a movie of that would have drawn a lot more eyeballs than this will.
You could do this right. I'm really not sure what their target audience is for this. It reminds me of...Megaforce.

Re: Well this was... unexpected
I'll probably see it for the laugh. Chris Ecclestone as Destro (is he Destro? Or is that a different franchise? Everything I know about this stuff comes from Shortpacked!...) would be worth the price of admission, which I wouldn't be paying thanks to season tickets.
Fortunately I have no particular memories of G.I. Joe from my childhood to be brutalized as the movie surely will.

Well, maybe it's not just you, but certainly it's not me...
I've never watched gi-joe, but if I were a fan, I probably would be disappointed.
We've seen too many operations like this one; they almost never ends well... if you're lucky, they are not-so-bad-but-could-be-better.Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself. I am large, I contain multitudes. (W.Whitman)

There is only one man I trust to make sweet passionate love to my childhood; that man is Warren Ellis, writer on G.I.Joe: Darker and Edgier.
