Theme songs for your characters?
Hello all,
Lately I have found myself picking theme songs for my characters and listening to those songs before every session. Being a bit of a music-nerd I find this much fun, but it also makes it easier for me to get into character.
Is there anyone out there who also uses theme songs? If not, I can really recommend it, and if there are, I thought we could use this thread to discuss and show off our songs.
I choose themesongs only based on the emotion I get from the song. They should make me feel like my character. So sometimes it seems like the coice makes no sense at all, but it does to me. Keep in mind that I dont use these songs during sessions, only before. I use them for my own sake.
So, I'll start with my characters and matching songs.
I only have three characters in play right now.
Before playing my amnesiac, kindhearted and way to positive elven healer, (elves in Eon is very different from elves in DnD btw) I always listen to "För den som letar" by Lars Winnerbäck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmO-OpwYXuk
I think my extremely paranoid and skittish psycher (from Dark heresy) constantly hears the entire Toxicity album by System if A Down play in her head, so naturally "Chop Suey" became her theme song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=466VHt8KldM
But I think "Lie, lie, lie" by Serj Tankian fits as well
My newest character is a feral guard (also dark heresy) and I havent really found a perfect match for her. But right now I am using "All along the watchtower" both the Dylan and the Hendrix version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCwCBh0z3Hs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkok1Z4WJuY
So, please comment and post your own themesongs.
(Please excuse my bad English, it is not my native language and my spellcheck is malfunctioning right now.)

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
I ran a Night caste boxer in an Exalted game once whose theme song was inexplicably "Click, Click, Boom" by Saliva.
And for some time, I played PbP wrestling ("E-fedding"), which is unique because the characters actually have theme songs. Some of my characters' entrance themes were "Cross my Line" by Aaron Waters, "Bone Cracker" by Shocore, and "I'm Alive" by Disturbed.
Haven't found any theme songs for my D&D characters, yet. But I'm always on the lookout.
EDIT: Left out links.

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
Hrm. I've only really thought of one character for theme songs, but this topic got me thinking. I'll try to think of ones for the rest of them someday.
Half-fiend (Nerfed down do no LA. Pretty much just charisma boost, smite good and 1 natural armor) Bard(Blade variant)/Warblade. He's come up with a couple of themes over the years.

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
Yay! I love the playground. I was just gone for a minute and already two replys.
Hehe, Click click boom seems to fit perfectly to Exalted I think. But, a wrestlinggame? Cool. ^^ I can see why the characters should have theme songs.
Dominhate was a powerful sing, seems to fit a half-fiend perfectly. =)
I also have the most trouble to find theme songs to my DnD characters. Why do you think that is? Modern day is a bit easier than fantasy to me, but I never has as mych trouble with my eon characters as my DnD ones. Odd.

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
We used to have a party in WoW who always played together and so I decided that we had two theme songs, one was Thousand Foot Krutch's Phenomenon which was also dubbed "The Alterac Valley Theme" which depicted us doing various acts of badassery. The other was Hazel Fernandes "Number One" which I ended up choreographing a fight sequence to.
Mostly I use ambient music from anime's (the kind that have big orchestra scores) for my characters, though I did have one headbanging, moshing fighter who loved to scream "You can't kill The Metal!!" as he laid full plated smackdown on his enemies.

Theme song for my Half-Orc Cleric of Hextor is Indestructible* by Disturbed. I know it's corny as hell, sue me.

This one for a slightly chaotic beguiler.

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
I have theme songs for darn near all my characters, I've even had songs inspire characters. My only active character is currently a half orc rogue and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm4iU0yx9GY is his theme song.

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0 - This one was really fitting for my gray elven wizard who was an introverted jerk for everyone except his younger sister. Too bad he died in the second session and I could never roleplay that out (and I really wanted to... and I didn't want to incorporate that to my other character, because it would be really cheapskate.)

Ran a Warforged fighter once who had a thing for heavy metal music, and actually gave him ranks in perform (strings) to play. When he got to rocking out, we'd put on some Black Sabbath "Iron Man" or Iron Maiden "Run to the Hills". Much laughs were had.

i use that for most of my big, brutal warrior types of questionable alignment (fits best for the evil ones)"'Lo, there do I see my father. 'Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers. 'Lo, there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning. 'Lo, they do call to me. They bid me take my place among them. In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever."

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
This next one isn't really an RPG character, but rather an important character in a universe of mine. He was the king's only son for their faction (It's a sci-fi campaign setting), and was all set up to inherit it. Blah blah blah, stuff happens, he runs away because his dad goes crazy, his dad ends up trying to do something with a huge device. This character intervenes and ends up causing the device to malfunction. (Yeah, I'm being vague here.)
The ensuing blast devastated the planet, leaving very little life left and essentially killing most of the race. This last straw sent the character into an amnesiac semi-comatose state, standing alone on the structure where he fought his father. Currently he's wandering the galaxy in a constant daze, trying to recover any clues to what happened.
Enough rambling, on to the song: Which is really damn awesome.

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
I had a Warblade that I ran through a two year campaign. At the end of the first year I decided that his song was "Not My Time" by Three Doors Down. At the end of this last year, however, it changed to Indestructible by Disturbed

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
I was always intrigued by talk of theme songs for characters, but I've never really come up with anything good for characters of mine... nor have my players ever given me examples of theme music for their characters... so I'm kind of at a loss...

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
Holy Thunderforce (by Rhapsody) was the theme song for an elf paladin I played. Speedy, strong, and mildly obsessed with lightning.
That's the song I used for my war veteran human Paladin, who was basically a brick with a mace. (He had damage reduction, fast healing, very good armor, and a silly amount of HP).

My characters invariably have "Waka Laka" as their theme song. If it doesn't work, it means I did something wrong.

Can anyone recommend a theme song, for an Elven Cleric of Nerull? Obsesses with death, abuses DMM: Persist?

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
There are a lot of Slayer songs that would fit. How about God Send Death? Bloodline is a more vampire-y song, but could work.

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
As a DM, I assigned every character a theme song or two, most of them video game remixes because that's what I actually have. On each person's turn, I set one of their themes on repeat. It's really helped us keep track of whose turn it is after we get sidetracked.
Jannbarr, a human who started Monk/Swordsage/Shadow Sun Ninja but swapped all that out for Lord_Gareth's Harrowed after being raised from the dead, has only one theme song at the moment: Back Into Hell by Meat Loaf, which I can't seem to find online at the moment...
Brooklyn, the insane cleric of Olidammara (spelling?), has Booster Tarantino by djpretzel and Wheel of Fortune from Pirates of the Caribbean 2.
Eellass, amnesiac Drow monk, is assigned Forbidden Memory (of a Forgotten Dream) by RandomHero.
Arkaun, recently unearthed Warforged Juggernaut, has Atonement by Darangen and, as a bit of a joke theme, The Incredible Singing Robot by Star Salzman.
Espera, the half-orc spiked chain wielding tripmonkey chick, has Beware the Forest's Mushrooms by Nanaki's View and the Z.R.E.O. Team mix of Departure.
I've got a couple more players, but they've recently brought in new characters and I haven't gotten around to themes for them yet.Just so everybody knows, I'll probably lurk more than I post. Don't be surprised if I one day just vanish off the face of forum...

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
Our party from a previous campaign had Yuki Kajiura's Salva Nos as our theme song. Meanwhile, of the same party, my wizard who specialized in probability control's theme song was Tatsuya Ishii's River because of the line "mou ichide kono tane chansuu"(if only I had one more chance). we played Yoshida Brothers during our games constantly.
My mother says: those on fire should roll.

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
I've been trying to think of a themesong for my current character since I first saw this thread with no luck. She's a duskblade and the daughter of two of the rulers of an undead-infested land.
SpoilerAs a result, she's partly infused with negative energy, making her resistant to positive and negative energy, so she's hard to heal but stabilises easily.
(spoilered for the rest of the group, who aren't suppose to know.)
Any suggestions? Thanks to Veera for the avatar.

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
I have played two barbarians.
One Dwarven and one half-orc.
My latest character was the Half-Orc.
On the way from work to our gaming night, I'd blast some Pantera because I kind of picture "Gorg" as having Phil Anselmo's facial hair, right around the "Live 101 Proof" days.
Though Gorg is completely the opposite of Phil Anselmo, but that would be much better for "describe your best character" thread. (If said thread exsists)

Forgot to post this,
Our party is called the "Red Dawn Mercenary Group". That's right the one with Patrick Swayze.
We would hum the some of the music from that movie when the DM would mention our name.

Re: Theme songs for your characters?
I think the song Warcry of the Paladin fits my Paladin of Freedom character, Dax. He's sort of become the teams comic relief when they're not fighting, so the songs campy lyrics seem to fit him.
