The supergroup is releasing an album here in the states June 9. Anyone else planning to get it?

I plan not to get it but I'm sure that won't stop anyone else from getting it.

Well, that was a very well worded, productive post.

Any reason why? examples include, but are not limited to they don't suit your tastes, you're broke, all of Hagar's stuff sounds very similar, ...

I'm not sure, I'll look into it online I suppose, and then buy it if I like it, mostly out of respect for Chad Smith as a drummer. I'm not a fan of Joe Satriani (M'not sure why, I just don't like him, though he has a couple decent songs). Sammy Hagar in Van Halen was pretty awful, and I'm not a big fan of Van Halen in general (Which is why I'm ambivalent about Michael Anthony; everything he did was overshadowed by David Lee Roth, or Eddie, or Alex). I suppose Sammy Hagar was good enough in Montrose though, so I dunno. I'll check those three you've got up.

    *Listens to them*

Yeah, the vocals aren't working for me. I'm a bit disappointed, like, I'm not a fan of Satriani, but he definitely has a great tone in his own stuff, and I feel like he's wasted some of his skill by using such an abrasive tone now. For a band that's fairly diverse in their backgrounds of music, I feel like these songs at least, come off as fairly generic. The fact that the guitar is more riff-oriented is nice, as it gives a bit of a personal touch to each song. The little breakdown bits are nice, and the solos are good, but...I've read some interviews by Chickenfoot, and they always stress that they're not a "Corporate Supergroup", in the sense that they were put together with the express intent of making money. Rather, they were 4 guys who knew each other and "fell into" a band together. Listening to these tracks, I can't help but think it wasn't quite so effortless.

I'm not calling their legitimacy into question, or anything, but I don't think they play together as well as they think they do. The best bands out there right now, from both a live and recording standpoint, are the bands that are so locked into the group mentality that their songs are great unions of guitar, vocals, drums, and bass. For the most part, these are bands that have been around for years and years. The example that comes to mind is Green Day (Yes, yes, you all hate them, whatever). Having seen them live on the American Idiot tour, and having listened to a lot of their music, and read their interviews, I can honestly say they are one of the tightest bands around. They just sound so blended, like they instinctively know what everyone is going to do and how, and the correct way to respond.

Chickenfoot's a new band, so they don't have the luxury of having played together for 20 years, like a lot of bands out there. In my own opinion, however, if they want to break out of a generic hard rock mold, then they need to start playing better as a unit.

Raistlin: I can see where you're coming from. If I didn't like Hagar, I'd really be turned off of this band. They're not really anything really new or great style-wise, I'll admit, but I find it fun, and I'm interested to see if this group will do a better job of meshing over time than Damn Yankees did.

I've never heard of them, but for the purposes of this discussion, I like them 3.5 times more than anyone here dislikes them.

Nobody here dislikes Chickenfoot. We all hate them. Therefore your vote is wasted.

    It's still -3.5 for Chickenfoot.

Just to spite you, I'm going to decide that since I've never heard anything about Chickenfoot, it's not fair for me to dislike them. And since I'm totally unbiased with no prior feelings for or against them, I count x5 because I'm a new convert.

Now it's +2.5 in favor of Chickenfoot.

I never stated anything of the sort...to be honest, really nothing even close to earning that .5. I just admitted that they're not the next big thing.

But what do I know, I think canadian beer sucks.

Chickenfoot was a character in Zim.
And that's the way I think it should stay.

Not because I dislike the band, but because it was an awesome one-time character.

I think Canadian beer sucks as well. So that's -2 for Canada.

    "DON'T LOOK AT ME!!!"

How can a band with Sammy Hagar and Joe Satriani suck? It's a mystery. I mean, listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_EMFYrZVrw

    Gah.

They don't suck, they just aren't actually that great. Especially not Hagar (in Chickenfoot at least, I think I remember liking a couple of his Van Halen works).
