Bah. None of my champions are mace users. And it's only iron... An adamatine one would be better...

Regular troops will use adamantine, right?

yep. It's shiny and non legendary, and dorfs love it. What self respecting dorf wouldn't want adamantine armour?

    I hate you all...

I had never played or heard of this game before coming here so I figured what the hell I would give it a shot. 4 days later and a multitude of hours played and now I must curse you guys for this addictive as hell game.

I've gotten the beginnings down, I can make a fortress that supports dwarves and even brings in migrants, but I haven't gotten to the point where my economy is blooming in order to trade for nicer things. I have come to the realization that dwarves are idiots when it comes to fishing (mine all get pulled by their beards to the murky depths by carp) and that kobold thieves must all die.

I read something on the official website that the game may be going 3D in the near future?

If it makes you feel better, despite my mighty eagles, its year 206, I lack a military or steel or flux (other than some meager imports), and my fortress is currently quite lackluster... My current defences ammount to 40 cage traps in a 4x10 area... And the eagles... dear god the eagles ^_^

Well, I started a new fortress. I have magma, bauxite, magnetite, all in quantity. I know for a face there's adamantine somewhere around here. There also ought to be an underground river, if I can find it, and I know I have a chasm cause I can see it.

Only problem? No trees. At all. If I want wood, I'll be needing to trade for it.

If you have an underground river, it's possible to start a tower cap farm along the banks. The DF wiki should have advice on how to make that happen.

Is there a reliable way to find underground rivers under your fort? I keep visiting sites and I don't stumble on it (the founder of Boatmurdered never had this problem )

Also, can magma pipes be underground? That would explain a lot...

Ah, planepacked. That's the best artifact ever, by far. It contains the entire history of the world he was in, along with about 70 different carvings of itself on it. It's crazy.

Imagine that you took our entire universe... and put it onto a statue. That's what Planepacked is.

Dig and pray, mostly. You can use Reveal, but that kinda buggers up the game.

heh, I just mess with worldgen and set volcanism to 100/100. All your magma-finding problems solved! Strangely, I have not once seen a kobold since I've done that, do kobolds not settle in volcanic regions or something?

Just an FYI: Boatmurdered was a really old version where every fortress had that set of cave river, chasm, and magma.

This a theory with no base in experience or knowledge...

Kobolds are suppose to live in caves apparently... But if these caves are filled with magma, theres not much room for Kobolds, is there?

Possibly, although I would think there would be deceased kobolds on embark or something. Also, I forgot to mention I also set starting date to year 2, so every game is an Age of Myth game. And all tiles are either forest, mountain, or shrubland I think. There could be a lot of reasons, it'd be hard to isolate.

Make some crossbows out of bone. They'll work just as well as metal ones.

What bones :( Not got the hang of hunting yet, not seen any wild animals around my mountain, and I meant metal for weapons so I can have some sword or axedwarves. I can make crossbows out of wood fine.

Well, you can either trade for them then, OR you can make an army of wrestlers. Wrestlers who will quickly become champions, and will then tear goblins limb from limb with their bare hands.

I have 10 champion wrestlers at the moment, always train my military dwarves up as wrestlers before giving them weapons. Just equipped them with wooden xbows now.

Hmm. Generally I don't bother training the crossbowdwarves as wrestlers first, mostly because it's their job to hide behind fortifications and shoot things.

Current fort, by the way, still haven't found my river or got any immigrants. It's tough doing things with only the original 7 to do all the work.

I'm still desperately searching for metal :( Thinking about building a bridge from the top of my mountain to the top of the neighbouring one.

Just finished an enormous pumping mechanism transporting water from my aquifer layer quite a few Z levels under the base of my mountain right up to the top to fill the 5x2 moat underneath my drawbridge lol. Used it to drown a dwarf that had gone mad and the baby he was carrying too lol.

<3 the over-elabrate mechanisms for little to no practical use (the dirt ditch was good enough lol). Trying to think of some practical use I could make for water at the top of my mountain now.

Massive waterfall? Dwarves would love that.

On another note, wrestlers are meant to move on to actual weapons right? Even if they are champion? I haven't been able to due to shortages of wood to smelt ores (and not having an anvil yet). My champions weren't as great as I was hoping...

If you got magma and water you can get obsidian to make some really nice obsidian swords. If you got a legendary craftsdwarf (because that stupid planter and not your armorer got a mood) then you can easily make masterwork obsidian swords. That's the best thing short of an ademantine sword.

No idea where to make it, my mountain is literally conical all the way to the top. I lopped about 8 z-levels off the top to make a flat bit large enough for my tower, entrance ramp and space for a moat and room enough for trader waggons to get in.

I thought about through the middle of my dining hall but my accomodation wing is right above that :(

What would happen if I just shot water out the side of my mountain on one side?
