    Default magic item costs

If I wanted a circlet of +2 cha and +2 wis would the cost be 8000 or would it be 16000 total?

    Thanks

    Well...

    +2 bonus is 4,000
    second +2 bonus 4,000
x 1.5 for two abilities in one slot 6,000
    total 10,000
x 1.5 for wrong slot (Wis normally amulet, Cha normally cloak)
    Final Grand Total 15,000

Except with Magic Item Compendium rules, adding base abilities (ability boosts, standard typed AC boosts & resistance boosts) onto a magic item of proper type became free.

So 8000gp. And it just so happens both have affinity to head, so no increased costs. So 8000gp total.

It still has the x1.5 for the multiple ability/enchants thing doesn't it?
    So 10000?

I don't think so. There's an appendix in the back of the MIC that states that with common enchantments (such as + strength, charisma, ac, natural armor, deflection, etc) you simply add the cost with no extra modifiers.

AND, in the first response, you don't multiply the whole thing by 1.5, you only multiply the additional enhancement by 1.5. So it'd be (ignoring the MIC rules): 4000 + 4000(1.5). If you were adding something that goes in the wrong slot, it would be 4000 + 4000(1.5)(1.5).
But all of that second paragraph is irrelevant to the OP. I agree with the guy who said it would cost 8000.

    That's how AbyssKnight calculated it...

    Silly me.

EDIT: Actually, he did multiply the final 10000 by 1.5, rather than simply the 6000 by 1.5 and then adding 4000. So final cost (in a hypothetical example where it was slotted wrong) should be 13,000gp (if you ignore the MIC rules). Right?

Nope, the last 1.5 was the wrong slot multiplier - although IMO (and as Eldariel pointed out) it's not applicable, since Cha and Wis both seem to go under "mental improvement." So using the SRD, it's just 10,000 gp; 4,000 gp for one +2, and 6,000 for the extra one.

Right, right. I was just pointing out that (ignoring the fact that it isn't the wrong slot) the original calculation was still too high...

    So, final answer:

    SRD: 10,000gp
    MIC: 8,000gp

Is that what it costs my artificer to buy the parts and make it in his garage, or is that what I pay at the market stall?

That's the price you'd buy it at walmart for.

The guidelines give you a market price. The gp cost to create the item is half the market price, and the XP cost is (market price)/25.

So for this +2/+2 item, the base price is 10,000 or 8,000 gp (SRD or MIC), the cost to create is 5,000 or 4,000 gp, and the experience cost is 400 or 320 XP.
