Test of Spite: Saph (Battle & Dungeon Entrance)
This thread's for my match against my volunteer mutual attempted killer for Tidesinger's Test of Spite.
Since we're short on DMs, we'll do this by the honour system. You run your character, I run mine. On your turn, you declare your actions and attacks. It's up to the player in question to acknowledge when they're hit/hurt/incapacitated and to mention relevant info from their character sheet. Put all information that the opposing PC shouldn't know in a spoiler, like this:
Observers Only
SpoilerInformation
Arena is as follows:

Squares are 5 feet each. C represents column positions, running floor to ceiling. Walls and columns are stone, with coral accents. There are exits at F1/G1 and F12/G12, not that it matters unless you want to retreat. Ceiling is 30 feet high. There's a 10' square tunnel at F6-G6-F7-G7 that goes up another 30 feet.
This arena has been chosen because it's the one I fought in in the Test of Might, and thus I was able to copy/paste it in 15 seconds. If you'd like a different map, go right ahead, but you have to do the work of supplying it. :P (Oh, and the original map was underwater, but I've left that part out, unless you'd rather I kept it.)
Starting positions: You pick a starting square in row 1 or 2, I pick a starting square in row 11 or 12, chess style.
Buff time: Both characters have all-day effects active (ie any effect that lasts a full adventuring day of 12 hours or more), but get no preparation rounds. I think this is the fairest option, as it represents a normal adventuring encounter reasonably well and it's a compromise between no buffs and full buffs.
Both parties are aware that there's an enemy in the vicinity and are considered to be in combat.
Since we don't have a DM, rules adjudications and queries will be handled by mutual agreement. If we can't agree on something, we'll either settle on a compromise, flip a coin, or call in an arbiter.
Match ends when one character concedes & withdraws from combat, dies, or is similarly rendered unable to continue.
I think that's about it. Any challengers, post below, and let's have some fun. :)

Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs ?
My character isn't exactly stealthy, so I doubt it'll be a problem from your end. From my end, I'll just declare a move and you'll tell me when I see you.
If you like you can include a spoiler for when I move into such-and-such a square, if I'm not online and you want to save time.

Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs ?
Initiative's yours. Your turn.
My character's at D11. If you're out of line of sight you can still see a brilliant glow of bright light coming from that end of the arena.
If or once you have LoS to D11, you see the following:
Character Description
SpoilerA tall man with blonde hair stands in front of you. He's big and powerfully built, and the hilts of weapons protude from behind either shoulder. He's clad in bright golden armour that glows with a dazzling light, and his eyes are an eldritch blue.I'm the author of the Alex Verus series of urban fantasy novels. Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs ?
Turn:
Spoiler
Standard: I overchannel manifest Vigor for 15 PP (75 temp HP) on myself and my psicrystal.
Swift: I manifest Temporal Acceleration on myself for 11 PP.
Temporal Acceleration: I manifest Schism on myself for 7 PP.
I do not move.
No LoS. You may hear a muttering humanoid voice from the opposite side of the arena.
If you gain line of sight to J2, you see this:
Spoiler
You see an average sized humanoid covered in an odd silvery substance, holding a dagger, with a pack slung across his back. You make out the forms of two small horns on the creature's head. A small crystal levitates over his shoulder.
Perhaps with sufficient Knowledge(Psionics):
SpoilerYou recognize the silvery substance to be a psychoactive skin, and the crystal to be a Psicrystal.
Edit: Also, I'll list my all-day buffs here, lest I forget again.
Spoiler
Overland Flight. 11 PP.
Mindblank, Personal. 13 PP.

Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs aethernox
If that was a spell, I try and identify it using Spellcraft: (1d20+24)[26]
You also hear a humanoid voice saying something. If you have Spellcraft, you'll be able to identify the following spells with a DC of 17 or so.
SpoilerShield, Heroism
Move to row B and up to B3. I fail to gain line of sight to your square at any point, so haven't read the spoiler. Your turn.I'm the author of the Alex Verus series of urban fantasy novels. Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs aethernox
You do not recognize the sound as a spell.
Turn:

I allow TA to end.
My schism manifests Share Pain between myself and my psicrystal. 3 PP.
I manifest Synchronicity for 3 PP.
I do not move.
Durations (for personal use):
Spoiler
Share Pain, Overland Flight, Mind Blank, Personal: Hours more.
Schism: 12 rounds more.
Power Resistance, Vigor: 13 minutes-ish.

Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs aethernox
First thing I'm going to do on my turn is move out of the cover of the column to B2. If I still don't see you, I'll keep moving to I2. Tell me if at any point I gain LoS to your square and what I see if I do.

Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs aethernox
You see me at J2 when you move to B2. You now can see the description I added in my first turn. As soon as you turn the corner you see the creature suddenly tense and begin to concentrate. He mutters a few syllables, and you (might) find yourself under a mental onslaught.
In addition, you may need to make will saves. If you don't have SR/PR, two separate DC 22 will saves. You may make Psicraft checks if you're trained.
On successful check of DC 17:
SpoilerYou recognize the power as 'Ego Whip.'

Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs aethernox
You take 4 Charisma damage on a failed save and are dazed. On a success, you take 2 Charisma damage. This ends my readied action.
Observers:
Spoiler
I used a Twinned Maximized Ego Whip for 13 PP, readied with Synchronicity.
Also, this expends my and my psicrystal's psionic focus.

Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs aethernox
The man staggers under the impact, then his eyes flash. "Servant of evil! Begone!" A heavy flail leaps into his hands and he zooms in, aiming a mighty blow at his opponent. Divine energy sparks from the flail as it sweeps in.
SpoilerActivate Arcane Wrath, using a swift action and sacrificing a cantrip. Initiate Divine Surge. You can identify it if you have Martial Lore, which you probably don't.
Move to I2 and attack. Attack roll: (1d20+24)[37]
Damage (only use if the attack hits)
Spoiler(14d8+10)[77] bludgeoning.

Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs aethernox
As the weapon nears the psion, the silver material covering him hardens, and shapes into ornate fullplate. However, this does nothing to deter the flail. The blow connects, and Garm rears under its blow. Snarling, he steps back (5ft step) and begins to concentrate.
Spoiler
Spend Move action, regain psionic focus.
Overchannel an Ego Whip with 15 PP.
Schism manifests an Ego Whip with another 7 PP.
Again, Garm lashes out with psychic energy.
One will save, DC 28. Another, DC 24.
On hit:
Spoiler(4d4)[10] Charisma Damage for the first. Fail, dazed. Succeed, half damage, no daze.
(2d4)[2] Charisma damage on the second. Fail, dazed. Succeed, half damage, no daze.
I'll wait to see the results of this before continuing.

Re: Test of Spite: Saph vs aethernox
As soon as the psion begins his assault, the golden-haired warrior makes a quick gesture and vanishes. Whatever he's done, it doesn't prevent you from completing your attack, but you don't have any visible target to aim at.
