Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
Morning all Giant goers, just need a hand picking some magic items for my new character, he is a wizard 3, cleric 3 with practice spell caster for both classes, and a few feats that boost my healing spells, here are my stats;
Str - 12
Dex - 14
Con - 13
Int - 16
Wis - 16
Cha -12
I have got 26k to spend and was just looking for a few ideas on what to spend it on, Oh and can only spend a max of 4k on an item, but when it comes to wands etc the amount of charges can be reduced to bring it under the 4k limit.
cheers all.
(edit)
Its 3.5 and its set in FR, lots of low level monsters, mainly orcs, goblins etc.
Would be looking to increase my healing some how and a few blast items, going for a healing/buffing cleric and a blaster wizard.Last edited by Jimbob; 2009-06-24 at 04:46 AM.
101 things you dont want your apprentice to say:
12. "I finally shot that owl that's been following you around!"
75. (Loudly) "WHAT AN ILLUSION, MASTER! THE STORM GIANT WILL * NEVER * FIGURE THAT OUT!"
108. "Don't feel bad, boss. At least the OTHER demon didn't break free!"

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
First of all, 3.5, right?
In that case... Well, stat boosters are generally my first purchase.
Can't go past a +2 item of Con. Getting two +4 boosters, for your main casting stats, will get you bonus 1st level spells, which is always nice. In fact you could afford a +4 to Con, Int and Wis and still have 6,000 left for other stuff, like magic weapons

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
I don't care if you've got a 4k limit - try to convince your DM to give you a Rod of Wonder.
You cannot possibly go wrong with a Rod of Wonder. Fun for you, fun for your DM, fun for everybody!Last edited by pingcode20; 2009-06-24 at 03:57 AM.

Decanter of endless wine. No wizard should be without!
Tell us more about your setting, then maybe I can help you find some more items. Boosting stats and AC is always good, but maybe theres better stuff for you to go for.
Cheers,

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
You can buy 1.3 million chickens. :D
Seriously now:
-A handy haversack is great, especially for a spellcaster who typically does not have a large carrying capacity.
-An infinite scrollcase. (2800 GP, Magic Item Compendium) The scroll you want, as part of a move action, when you want. It also grants a bonus on Concentration checks made to cast defensively on scrolls pulled from it.
-rod of viscid globs. (2000 GP, MIC). Same effect as the tanglefoot bag, but usable 3 times a day and with a range of up to 100 feet.
-You might want to put your blasting spells on a wand so you could always have them ready. Scorching ray is a good choice, though it would cost 4500 GP at least.

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
Malacode
He can't have anything worth more than 4k. Stat boosting items are bonus squared x 1000.
No offense to your DM Jimbob, but that's pretty ridiculous to give out 26k then limit someone like that.
What is WBL for level 6?
Heward's haversack.
Stonefire ring (MiC) Easy way to negate invisibility, and deal some damage.
+2 items of con, int, wis, (and dex if you got the cash left over)
+2 cloak of resistance
+2 armor or +2 ring of protection (Don't think they stack)
+tunic of steady spellcasting (might actually be 5k...)
+A cheap runestaff
I'm not sure if you're a melee cleric or not, but you could afford a +1 weapon with that price restriction.
Items that grant bonuses to skills (rings and such)

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
You have chosen.. Poorly.
Item wise: Get an Amber Amulet of Vermin, Huge Monstrous Scorpion. Get a +2 INT, +2 WIS item and a +2 CON item. That's 13,200 so far.
Nick a Wand of Lesser Vigor, Ring of Deflection +1, Full Plate +1, Heavy Shield +1 and a +1 weapon. That's 5,710+However much your weapon costs. Total of 18,910 spent.
Get a +2 Cloak of Resistance, there's 22,910 spent.

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
Forgot about that. I usually suggest it to every character over level 3 or so. Could double the cost and make it an unslotted item.
Edit: Blueshine armor and everbright weapon.
The secondary abilities of these aren't worth much (+2 hide, ref14 or blind against all in 15 feet). But the primaries: Armor and weapon are now immune to rust/acid damage.Last edited by herrhauptmann; 2009-06-24 at 10:23 PM.

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
+1 twilight mithral chainshirt. ~6k I think.
I forgot about the Mystic theurge as well. Was just thinking straight cleric. Everbright will still make a good mace.
I know your build is already done, but I recommend 'Spellcasting prodigy' from the Forgotten Realms campaign guide. Take it twice as a first level human, will raise your effective int and wis to 18 for spells/day, DC, and starting wizard spells.
Newer versions of the feat are more balanced and less awesome.

It's been asked before, but can you really stack different forms of crafting?
Elven, dwarf, fey, gith, what else is there?

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
I would argue you cannot go _right_ with a rod of wonder.
Grab a rod of lesser extend, if you please, and perhaps a wand of lesser or just plain vigor so you can spend less time healing.
A belt of healing for each of your friends will free you to pursue actual casting, though the way you've laid your classes out is really gonna hurt that.Last edited by Doc Roc; 2009-06-25 at 04:54 PM.

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
I am genuinely surprised and quite pleased to see that nobody is yelling at the OP for trying MT. That having been said, you can't go wrong with a Handy Haversack, and I personally always buy a Ring of Sustenance. Stone Salve can come in handy if you think you'll face anything that can petrify. You could also buy a Rod of Extend and a Pearl of Power II and use Rope Trick to protect the party while resting.

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
First off, I echo the poster who suggested rod of viscid globs, I love that item (healing belts are a great choice too). Also consider an Empowered Spellshard (2nd level), from the MiC if you have it. for 3000gp you can empower a specific 2nd level spell 3 times per day, which should help you use your limited slots to their fullest. I'd also consider some of the other nifty items in the MiC, such as the ring of mystic healing (similar to healing belt but with a bonus to cl for cure spells) and ring of silent spells (once per day casts silence centered on you, but gives you free silent spells).
It's also nice to see someone else with a proper love for the mystic theurge. Best of luck with it, I doubt I'd have the guts to try playing one without precocious apprentice or something similar.

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
I don't care what people say, precocious apprentice is perfectly, totally, completely legit. It does produce a potentially very powerful character, but there are games gear around the idea of dual or triple threat characters where this is fun and enjoyable. It's also great in a two-man group with, say.... a RkV front-liner.
Precocious Apprentice is also fantastic early game, one of the best feats if you can pen down an elegant way to make sure you hit the CL check, or can break down the slot with versatile spell caster. :)Lagren: I took Livers Need Not Apply, only reflavoured.
DocRoc: to?

With Precocious Apprentice and a reserve feat, at level 1, your reserve feat is doing more than your spells.
With unlimited uses per day.

Re: Got gold to burn but dont know on what.
You guys are missing the best option:Focused Specialist. Turn that one slot into 2 that require no check to work, and definitely work for Mystic Theurge.

I'm so pathetic. I read the title, my first thought was "you got a hunk of the element Gold (Au) to burn without melting, and yet you don't know what substance made it do that?"
