    Default Challenge: Generalist Wizard

I am wondering how be possible to build a wizard with the greatest number of spells per day without surrendering versatility. So here are the rules

    Race: Any, but mind LA
    ECL: 10
Int: rolled 18 + racial mod + leveling
    No specialists
    Any WotC sourcebook
    50,000gp to spend
Any PrC which won't disrupt the capacity to learn any spell from Wizard spell-list.

Old Grey Elf Wizard, with the Domain Wizard variant from UA. +6 Headband of Int. Has +10 Int mod(+3 1st and 2nd level spells, +2 for all others). 5 5th level castings.

Yeah, the Elf Wizard(RotW) substitution levels give you extra spells as a generalist, iirc. After that it isn't too hard.

Generalist is overrated. Consider specializing and getting the capacity back to do things, like using mage of the arcane order or use early entry and go specialist wizard (ban illusion and enchantantment) and beguiler and ultimate magus up all ten levels. There are a few feats that help you get around banned schools, but the feat investment tends to put people off.

I don't have most of my books on hand, but I think the best would be an Old Grey Elf Wizard 7/Loremaster 3 with Elven Generalist Substitution Levels.

Grab two flaws (you might only need one, but might as well grab the extra feat just in case), the prerequisites for Loremaster (three item creation or metamagic feats and a Skill Focus [Knowledge]), maybe Collegiate Wizard (extra spells known!), and Precocious Apprentice (extra 2nd-level spell slot). With a +6 headband of intelligence, if your DM will allow it, you should be able to grab at least one Loremaster secret for an extra 1st or 2nd level spell slot.

Meh, level 10 is annoying 'cause you're 1 HD short, but on 11 you'll be able to purchase Polymorph Any Object into White Ethergaunt [FF] for 27 base Int (giving you 36 boosted, easily). As an Elan, you'd be able to make it Permanent with just a single casting. But at 10, I don't remember any forms that give you more than 22 Int, meaning they really don't beat out Gray Elf.

Items can of course be used to pimp out spells per day, but generally you'll just buy a few Pearl of Powers and call it a day. So yeah, I guess you're stuck with your 30 Int & +1 slot/level from Domain Wizard.

NO, you ban Evocation and get it back via (Greater) Shadow Evocation. Beguiler doesn't grant any of the good Illusion spells, and the build doesn't go over 5th level Beguiler spells anyway. You won't get even one Advanced Learning since you'll only have one level of Beguiler. You want spells like (Greater) Shadow Evocation, Superior Invisibility, and maybe Shadow Form, which you won't ever gain from Beguiler with that build. Keep Illusion, ban Evocation and Enchantment, because Illusion makes up for losing Evocation, but Beguiler does not make up for losing Illusion.

As for the challenge, Domain Wizard grants one extra spell per spell level per day, just like specialist Wizards gain. At Wizard 10, your base spells/day are 5/5/5/4/4/3. Go Grey Elf (+2 Int), Old age category (+2 Int), and add your 4th and 8th level points to Int (+2) for an Int score of 24. That puts your spells/day at 5/7/7/6/5/4. Buy fifty 1st level Pearls of Power for 50,000 gp, and you get fifty extra 1st level spells each day.

    Race: Kobold.
    Apply the White Dragonspawn template.
    Take the Dragonwrought feat.
    Be a loredrake.
    Be ancient.
Buy off level adjustment at level 3.
At level 6, undergo the greater draconic rite.
Apply the Riddled and Spellscale templates. You lose one spell per level, cast as a wizard instead of a sorcerer, lose eight wisdom, gain eight intelligence, and use your scales as a spellbook.
Retrain levels one through six as a domain wizard. Best to take one level of domain wizard, then take levels in Rainbow Servant for free domains and more spells.

    You should end up with 18 + 3 (age) + 2 (level) + 8 (racial adjustments) + 6 (headband) int, 37 int total.
You will end up casting as a 13th level wizard.

Alternative to using a headband of int is to simply cast and persist (using three levels of incantatrix) Power Leech, a fifth level necromancy spell from Book of Vile Darkness. It drains one point of int from a target every round for 1round/caster level. Persist will change it from lasting 10 minutes/ caster level to 24 hours. Extending that will make it last 48 hours.

Without any boosts to CL, you can leech 13 int points. This will get you 44 int.

    [edit]
While incantatrix requires you to have a prohibited school, there is nothing preventing you from scribing every spell you would want from evocation into a blessed book before taking your first level in the prestige class.

One prohibited school is not a problem. You can just get it back with Arcane Transfiguration (LEoF), by burning 3 feats.

You a wizard .'. your proably an elf. .'., take elven wizard subleval from Races of the wild (as already mentioned) and you get almost all the advantages of a specialised wizard (extra spells, exra casting, no improved penetration but you can take the with a feat).

    Else You're not an elf:
You could just go the simple way and not specialize.
    You don't have to specialize.
There is nothing on earth that we share; it is either Valjean or Javert!

"A wizard can in fact be thought of the custodian to a familiar, a terrifying beast that charges its foes, slashing them to shreds while delivering their master's touch spells and bestowing upon their masters incredible bonuses to their hp or skill checks. A wizard is nearly powerless without one."

Need to find a God? or Spell or Feat?

Was going to say that myself.

Also spellcasting prodigy and Collegiate Wizard. The first adds 2 to your int for purpose of DC and Bonus spells and the second gives you an extra spell known per level (so you get 3 per level).

Also use the elf substitution levels.

IIRC, they updated Spellcasting Prodigy to only give you bonus spellslots. *cough*

But i guess that doesn't matter to the build in question.

    Sorry forgot about that.
    You are right.

I don't think it sucks so bad as people think with the new version.
Though the extra DC was awesome.
