Test Of Spite, AE&Olo's entrance, Dungeon Instance [3.5]

At the end of your brief stint in the strange ring city of Sigil, you see a rapidly rolling bank of fog, thick with the airborne detritus of the city. In the back of your head, a small voice shouts "Run!" The fog seems to move in from every direction, sweeping over you in a hot and humid wave, hundreds and hundreds of little canine faces articulated in the mist. Sigil falls away like a hallucination as bright hot sunlight beats down on you. You find yourself stranded in the middle of an enormous desert, composed of almost entirely flat black sand dunes. There's no features, and a steady wind blows away your footprints.

The only other feature of the desert is the vague outline of a distant figure.

"Sigh, " begins the charcoal-skinned elf, "It was such an interesting city." Simen casts his gaze across the dunes.

"This place seems much less enjoyable."

A about 3 and a half foot female gnome walks up to you. She wears black leather armor and constantly carrys a longbow, sized perfectly for her. Her black hair is tied back so that it doesnt obscure her vision. Without withdrawing her hands from her bow, she introduces herself. "I'm Sayna...who are you...and what was that Black Fog?"

Whatever else this place is, it's completely unnatural. This is a constructed plane, likely a wholly closed demiplane. You've never seen it before, nor heard of it. It seems pretty inhospitable, and as far as you can tell, you two are the only living creatures here. To clarify further, this isn't Ravenloft proper as far as you can tell.

The elf you see looks somewhat odd. His skin is a gray similar to that of ashes, and his hair is multiple shades of red. He seems fairly well groomed. His clothing is partially obscured by the shining, translucent plate armor he wears. He holds the haft of a massive hammer in his left hand, while the head lies firmly upon the sand. He eyes your bow uncomfortably.

"Hmm..? Oh. Hello there." The fire elf smiles warmly. "I'm Simen." He raises his hands, releasing the hammer, in a sign of peace. "You don't really need that weapon, I assure you."

Sayna looks down at her bow. Oh, sorry. I figured it would be best to have it out after that weird black mist stuff... She puts in on her back. Anyway, how'd you get here? I fought this wizard--I killed him in under 20 seconds--and then was shopping in Sigil...right before being "Black Misted".

[ex cathedra]

"I'll.. uh... be sure to warn all of my wizard friends. 'Black Misted', you say? Yes, I believe that's what happened to me, as well. " Simen glances to the ocean of sand surrounding them, and awkwardly kicks some with his boot. "What do you suggest we do? I've no idea as to where we are."

[Olo Demonsbane]

I've got no idea either...I just know its unnatural. Should we just start heading in a random direction?

"I don't have a better idea, but that seems like it will be unlikely to help."

After a moment of pause, Simen begins examining the gnome and her equipment.

(I have Arcane Sight. I can see magical auras, such as from items, and I can tell if you have spells/SLA, and get an estimation of how powerful they are.)

I can cast 5th level spells, you can see that my bow is strongly enchanted, I have a spell effecting me right now...the gnome positively glows magic. Every single one of my visible possessions, asside from my boots, is enchanted.

I have no idea then...should we just sit around and tell stories? Sayna remarks, slightly sardonically.

[ex cathedra]

"Er... perhaps not." Simen looks at his feet for a few moments. Suddenly, he grabs his haversack and begins rifling through it, searching for something. After a moment, he pulls out a scroll and begins examining it. He then promptly puts it back, and pulls another. All the while, he mumbles to himself.

"Detect Secret Doors? No... Darkvision? No.."

He does this for roughly a minute. In the end, he takes nothing from his pack.

"Sigh..."

Nice collection of scrolls there...I've only got a couple of wands, and no spells that I know can get us out of this...unless having a Rope Trick would do any good...

Sayna looks around, straining her eyes to see anything important.

Not only is it a closed demiplane, your spot reveals the tell-tale indications that it is a small looping demiplane. It seems highly unlikely that walking out is an option. :)

I cast Swift Etherealness and move.. downwards?

If that doesnt do anything, I fly up. Straight up, run speed, moves me 120ft per round, or 20ft per second (included 1/2 for up). That do anything?

Moving downward, you find an enormous stone slab that seems to form the base of the entire demiplane. It lies one foot or so below the sand, and stretches across the entire closed loop of the demiplane's topology. Below it appears to be a 100 foot deep shaft.

...After Simen tells Sayna, she starts digging with her shovel that she packed in her bag of holding

I move into the shaft and cast extended fly. And begin flying down. Swift Etherealness ends.

Sayna is, in an alternate universe , fighting Yahzi right now. I have almost killed his skeleton that he is in, and I have only been damaged 38

"Ah, glad you could make it. Quite the odd passage. Any idea where it might lead?"
