Name that Tavern!
So, for the 78% of people who begin their campaigns in a tavern (and for the other 22% who presumably encounter a tavern at some point)- what are your favorite tavern names for D&D?
Mine so far-The Bloated GargoyleThe Drunken WeaselPossum's Last DanceI drive a quantum car- every time I look down at the speedometer, I get lost.

Re: Name that Tavern!
I've used a lot, but I can't come close to remembering them all. There was...
The Lion & Lantern
The Tipped Scales (the dive bar in a town run by the priesthood of a god of justice)
The Leapin' Lizardman
The Wobblin' GoblinAwesome avatar courtesy of Dorian Soth.
Optional rules I'm working on (please contact me if you have ideas for developing them!):
Generic Prestige Classes; Summon Monster Variant; Advanced Dodges and Dex Bonuses; Incantations to Raise the Dead

Re: Name that Tavern!
The Drunken Morkoth, from Shackled City.
Mainly because one of the players misheard it.

Dragon's Landing.
Only it wasn't a tavern. It was a teahouse.I use black for sarcasm.
Call me Rose, or The Rose Dragon. Rose Dragon is someone else entirely.
If you need me for something, please PM me about it. I am having difficulty keeping track of all my obligations.

Re: Name that Tavern!
I've always used
The Yawning Pike
Den Gäspande Gäddan
Der Gähnende Hechte
Il Spadigliante Luccio
or something along those lines... any other translations, or corrections to the ones above, are welcome. There aren't really any exclusive or original ideas on TVTropes. That's kind of the point.

Re: Name that Tavern!
I think "Det mugsorte Ostebord" was one of the most memorable, not to mention deadly places I've set foot as an adventurer. It translates roughly into "The black-moldy cheese platter"... I guess it's one of those "you should have been there" things...

Re: Name that Tavern!
The Plotting Hook.
The Distressing Damsel
The Smashing Jugs
However, symbolic names are only really important in a none-literate culture. In D&D, almost everyone can read. Oddly enough considering I don't hear tell of many printing presses.Last edited by Ravens_cry; 2009-07-02 at 03:17 PM.

Re: Name that Tavern!
The Hanging Madman (name deriving from owner's old robbing technique - hard to explain...);
The Firebird (name deriving from the sighting of a phoenix by the owner);
The Stinking Fish (lowly tavern near the docks...)
The Green Bull (no particular reason, apart from oddity...)
The Thirsty Adventurer (Adventurer Guild's personal tavern).

Re: Name that Tavern!
The Minotaur and the Scroll (run by a bookish minotaur)
The Artistic Giant (run by a half-giant who had this thing for painting, and was pretty good at it)
The Drunken Fiends (named after three bearded devils that were ALWAYS there and ALWAYS drunk as hell)
Those three are pretty much my favorites.

Re: Name that Tavern!
Lol, I've used that one before. My players never got the joke.
Hmm....I'd have to say the most recurring inn in my campaigns is the Dragonfang Tavern. However, I've also had critical success with the Slam-Bam, Thank-The-Ma'am Single Night Inn. Which doubled as a brothel, hence the name.Drow Samurai avatar by Ranger Mattos!

Re: Name that Tavern!
Well, I named my weapons-store Bloodbath and Beyond, so yeah. xD I had a tavern in an evil campaign called The Paladin's Head, and another one that was a significantly ruder part of the paladin in it's name.

That's from Thieves' World, right?
My brother once named an inn "The Minotaur's Head." Guess what hung over the counter where the innkeeper stood?Last edited by FoE; 2009-07-02 at 04:42 PM.

Re: Name that Tavern!
Cmon Inn
Fuglees
Both are real places, but I'll probably use them if I get to run a campaign again.DMs don't cheat, they just change the rules.
