    Default Software for DMing

Hi there! I'm going to buy a laptop and I was looking for some software to help me DMing. I found two pieces of software that could help me, DM Genie and D&D 3.5 Edition Tools. The first one seems really complete and well done, but I couldn't find any options to include variant rules such as Spell Points from Unearthed Arcana; the second seems an unfinished business, as it lacks many features.

Do you know some other piece of software that could do? Or else, do you know ways to enhance DM Genie to incorporate variant rules and spells? Thank you.

EDIT: more, what if I want to incorporate classes from different sources, such as those from Tome of Battle? Is there any way to do this?

What exactly do you want your DMing software to do? It sounds like character building is part of it. What other functions do you need? I'm guessing that you're going to end up using a whole bunch of tools instead of finding one all encompassing DM tool.

I'm looking not only for a character builder, but for a combat manager too, to keep track of conditions, spells, modifiers, etc.; some sort of random generator for various events, such as weather, treasure, encounters.; charatcer manager, to record the evolution of my PC...
I know that there are several different programs to accomplish each singular task, but I was looking for just one software to do all, and I found that DM Genie performs quite well: this is why asked for help to incorporate different material form different sources.

I know they aren't comprehensive tools, but you should definitely check out heroforge and my wealth manager (look in sig) for character creation. Heroforge has every source you can possibly want integrated, and my wealth manager is on the way.

It is very unfortunate, but the tools you mentioned are no longer being supported by their creators. I didn't try looking too hard, but it doesn't look like either group wanted to release their code into the wild. Without the source code, it would be less work to create a brand new tool than to expand the existing ones. At some point I'll take a harder look at DM Genie to see if they did provide some way to increase its functionality, but I have little hope for that.

If you've got an iPod Touch or iPhone, there's an App for that.

Since getting an iPod Touch, I've been abusing the heck out of it while DMing. I still make heavy use of my laptop when DMing, usually by having all my player's character sheets readily available, along with an Excel sheet of initiative and combat actions, as well as SRD files of the usually accessed combat maneuvers.

That was just a bad post on my part. I meant to only talk about DM Genie, because I just got done looking at it.

Either way, what's wrong with the 3.5 Edition Tools? I ran through it with one of own characters and it seemed to provide all the non-core stuff I needed.

I've always been on the edge to try this app but never did it. This will be the right opportunity. Thanks. BTW I couldn't find links to Tome of Battle classes...

Got a Pocket PC, and my app is called DS Forgeworks.

Couldn't find spells. Opening the tool to modify them, none of the seting provided contained them; creating a Wizard I couldn't choose known spells: they simply seem not to exist.
