the Eldrich blast is considered a Ray attack (60 ft distance) that hits the touch ac. funny thing, it can crit at x2 damage

it's usually used as a ranged touch attack, unless stated otherwise (eldrich glaive shape allows you to make a full attack option as melee touch attacks with 10 ft reach, for example).

Note that Eldritch Blast is a Standard Action to use, and that most Eldritch Essenses are weaker then spells available at a similar level.

So your damage output and effects are very limited. The Warlocks requires a combo (Glaivelock) and/or PrC (Hellfire Warlock, Demonbinder) to use effectively.
