Tombraiding Music?
Anyone know of some good, free music available that'd be appropriate to play while exploring a long-deserted tomb? I'm experimenting with various mood-setting devices to improve my game.
Some suggestions for music to play during a miniboss fight would be good too, preferably stuff that isn't from a video game.NOW COMPLETE: Let's Play Starcraft II Trilogy:

This of course.
If not, for the battle, X-ray dog is worth considering. (I like the "A breed apart" demo, myself.)
Out of curiosity, why don't you want video game music?Last edited by Inhuman Bot; 2009-10-23 at 12:03 AM.

Blind Guardian for all occasions!
Though if you do want some epic battle music I'd suggest Turisas, Finntroll, Windir, Korpiklaani.
Though, Windir might be a bit more black metal then folk metal for your taste in epic battle music. But Turisas is awesome battle music!
EDIT: Oh I missed the "free" part. Still my suggestions stand.Last edited by Ostien; 2009-10-23 at 12:06 AM.

Re: Tombraiding Music?
Because most of my players are avid video game players, and playing, say, Final Fantasy battle music or the Zelda exploration theme will kill the mood faster than a greataxe crit to the face. I suppose if it's from a suitably obscure game, like one of the older Tomb Raiders or something, it'd be fine.
EDIT: Clicked on your link. D'oh. Something a little gloomier would be better, but that'll do.Last edited by The Glyphstone; 2009-10-23 at 12:15 AM.

Re: Tombraiding Music?
Would Castlevania, Iji or Earthbound/Mother music work?

Re: Tombraiding Music?
Castlevania's just a little too upbeat, unfortunately. Something out of a horror-survival game would actually be the best, now that I think of it - any idea where I could get a sample of Iji or Earthbound themes?

Re: Tombraiding Music?
For Earthbound, I'd reccomend Snowman for looking around, though it's sorta "winter climate-y".
I'm not sure if you want to have the boss music be similar to the other music, but if not Face to face and Tor could work.trill in da playground

Re: Tombraiding Music?
EDIT: Okay...I must have been half asleep when I was reading the OP but I thought you wanted music for raiding DESERT tombs...so ah...this is a little...wrong. But I'll leave it here anyway, I spose? lol, sorry!
I cant believe no one has mentioned this...
PRINCE OF PERSIA MUSIC!

Although its a game, its PERFECT. Sounds a little middle-eastern, epic and can easily go in the background while you play.
I'm a huge fan of the games, played and beat all of them. But when I went on youtube to look for links for you, I didn't recognize half of it...they will not likely realize its even from a game.
If you're looking for something a little more..modern, maybe? Karsh Kale does something that can be described as Indian trance, I suppose... fast moving music with a arabic flair to it. Its very enjoyable (to me at least) and should somewhat fit your setting.

Sorry if anyone finds this stuff a little strange, I personally really enjoy this stuff n_n

Re: Tombraiding Music?
Not sure how much you want to control your music, but when I do things like this I don't like to hand-pick the music too much-- either I have to go to the trouble of creating a playlist when I should be prepping the actual session, or I have to hand-pick a new song (often from youtube, nonetheless) every time the other one ends. TO get around that, I'm just going to throw out my favorite solution: pandora. Free and also great. It also lets you take advantage of the "non-free" music out there, by taking the artist suggestions people are giving you here, plugging them all into a station, and then just letting it rip when it's time to play. You can also then play it to yourself while you're prepping, and fine-tune it to the degree you like without actually wasting the time of making a playlist (basically, just thumbs-downing anything that doesn't quite fit your theme; etc). Anyway, that's what I do, and I think it works great =D
