d20-based zombie games
Any in particular of recommendation? That could be acquired still?
What about for doing something more along the lines of Left 4 Dead's menagerie of different zomblebees?
Some of the people I've been talking to were wanting to do a D&D3.5 survival horror zombie game set in contemporary times with only the improvised weapons and firearms one could acquire in small town America and none of the, uhm, high fantasy and such.
*facepalm*

Re: d20-based zombie games
d20 Modern is the system I'd use.
Since you guys know D&D 3.5 already, I don't think you'll have a hard time learning d20 Modern. There's even everything you'll need to know online for free!

Re: d20-based zombie games
d20 Modern is the way to go, yes.
The Bood and Brains: The Zombie Hunter's Guide supplement is made for this sort of campaign. (Never tried it myself.)
d20 Apocalypse from WotC could come in handy, as could the SRD for d20 Future and Urban Arcana.

(A must-read prior to starting any zombie anything).
And there's always All Flesh Must be Eaten, though I haven't personally played it.Last edited by Shalist; 2009-10-24 at 04:07 AM.
Dragons in the Playground (true dragons rebalanced and fleshed out to be playable characters without any class levels).

Re: d20-based zombie games
I recommend True 20 which is a universal role playing system based on the original Mutants and Masterminds. Among its features:
There are only three character classes, referred to as roles: warrior, adept and expert.
A single 20-sided die is used for each roll.
Ability scores are given as simple modifiers (+1, +2, etc.) rather than as a statistic ranged from 3-18 (which in other systems would then be cross referenced against a table to convert them to simple modifiers).
There are no class-specific or restricted skills, thus characters of any role can have any skill.
New feats are available at each level.
Magic spells are treated as feats and do not have "levels".
Instead of hit points, characters simply experience "damage conditions" like that of Mutants & Masterminds.
Instead of experience points, characters automatically increase in level at the Narrator's discretion, usually after one or two adventures.

There is always GURPs. Seriously. Always, name something and GURPs has your back.

Re: d20-based zombie games
d20 based games, guys. As much as GURPS and AFMBE are much, much better games than d20 Modern and (not Advanced) D&D, they are not d20 based games.
If you need a OGL based game, I would suggest True20 or Mutants & Masterminds, being the only good things to come out of OGL.
In fact, Mutants & Masterminds is so good, I suggest getting it either way. While it is nominally a superhero game, you can do much more using it.I use black for sarcasm.
Call me Rose, or The Rose Dragon. Rose Dragon is someone else entirely.
If you need me for something, please PM me about it. I am having difficulty keeping track of all my obligations.

Re: d20-based zombie games
Here are homebrewed versions of a couple of them. If you want more zombies, just use the stats of assorted DnD undead.

Re: d20-based zombie games
If you don't need a d20-based game, you can't do better than AFMBE for zombie games, as has been said. It is almost as flexible as Mutants & Masterminds, slightly more realistic and has the best zombie creation rules ever.
However, it is d10-based, and doesn't use a single d20 ever.I use black for sarcasm.

Re: d20-based zombie games
Keep in mind M&M was designed for high powered gaming. You can tone down the power level for "gritty" play but you're still dealing with characters of action movie hero abilities. True20 is basically the "core edition" of M&M so if you like the ruleset you should check it out. It was pretty much designed for people who like the D20 system and want to homebrew but don't like wading around the default class and experience based system.

Re: d20-based zombie games
Indeed, they're actualy too good for most of the population out there, wich explains why they don't dominate the market, since if they are so godlike, one would expect that people didn't play anything else, or that we would be talking on a forums based on a webcomic of them.
This is, why would people play a game they don't enjoy? Those damn wotc and their army of ninjas, pointing guns at people and forcing them to play D&D while burning their rival books out of the gaming stores!
