    Default Would Ability Focus help?

I was reading through the Combat Trapsmith and noticed that many of the traps have sucktastic DCs. Would ability focus help bring them up, or are they doomed to be ineffective?

Theoretically, yes, although your DM may or may not let you take Monstrous feats. But... well, DC 10+Class Level +Int Modifier isn't so bad for a PrC where you take your first level at 6th.
Of course, by the time I finish this post, it will already be obsolete. C'est la vie.

It's only a five level PRC, would that change work?

Has anyone homebrewed that as a base class?

I play primarily 3.5 D&D. Most of my advice will be based off of this. If my advice doesn't apply, specify a version in your post.

I would play it in a heartbeat, but the closest thing I found was a Warrior Trap Smith that was more of a basic outline.

What change? I've got Complete Scoundrel open, page 34 - "Some combat traps allow a saving throw, as noted in a trap's entry. The save DC is 10 + your combat trapsmith level + your Int modifier." - second column, 4th paragraph below the skill listings.

If you go into it as, say, Rogue-5/Trapsmith-X, then at character level 10 (Trapsmith-5), your save DC is 10+5+Int Mod - same as the Wizard's 5th level spells (although that's where you cap off).

The problem is level 11, 12, and 20. The save DCs don't scale past 10.

I erred, sorry. I took the crafting DC as the save DC. The problem now dissolves.

Yeah. That's actually a problem with a LOT of PrC's, and is in no way limited to the Combat Trapsmith.

    10-level ones, not so much.
