    Default 3.5e Treasure Tables

Ok, so, let's see if I have this correctly.

Crukas Darkmage and his faithful companion, Ghunn Iroe, slay a Choker and pick through the stash of treasure he kept in his lair.

    First, I roll 3d100. I get

19 for coins, 91 for art, 92 for magic.

    Then I roll 2d10 (5)

The party gets 5000 coppers, or would, but the Choker's stats say 1/10th coins. So they get 500 coppers. 5 gold wheee.

Next, the 91 says they get 1d3 art objects.

1d3=3 lucky swine. Now I roll 3d100 and get 61, 8, and 90. They find a pretty ivory statue, a gold comb with red garnets, and an emerald encrusted cup.

The choker entry, however, insists on 50% art. I'm not sure how to divide this in half.

Moving on, their 92 for magic means they get a minor magical item. I'm not sure how to roll for what kind of minor magical item they get. I notice that within each item type there are tables, (Wonderous Item has a chart with 100 minor wonderous items on it, there's a chart for rolling what enchantments you find on magic armor, etc). But I don't know which chart to use because I have no way of knowing whether they find a ring or a shield.

Even once that's done, I have no idea how to divide them by half. What's half a rod of wonder? A rod of mild interest?

50% art = roll a die for each item. High they get it, low they dont.

For items, consult table 7-1 of the DMG, Random Magic Item Generation. Page 216.

Grr. Why does the SRD not contain this information?

Oh how silly of me to assume that a table used only to roll for loot would be in the Treasure section along with every other table used to roll for loot.

How could I not have assumed that the probably of looting any given kind of magic item would be stashed in a page devoted to things like "Items are entitled to saving throws!"
    [/sarcasm]

Seriously though, why would it be in Magic Item Basics of all places? That's the one page I never go to!

Why don't you just get a copy of the DMG? While the SRD is useful, it seems you are having trouble with it, so a paper copy would allow you to more easily reference it, plus it contains stuff not in the SRD.

My question still stands. Someone who needs to look up

"Gee I wonder if powerful magical items have auras"

does not need to look up

"I wonder if there's a 10% chance that looted magic item is a sword"

The section on magic items is precisely where I'd go to look if I wanted to see what magic items I get. *shrug*. YMMV

Because the SRD is laid out by a ADHD affected ten year old with no idea how to DM let alone play the game?
Give them bread and circusses and the plebs wont rise against you. Give adventurers dungeons and trapped chests and they won't waste time looking to ransack your home and kill your wife.

And that, yeah. When all else fails, and long before that point, blame WotC.

    Because they're magic items!

It is in the section for treasure rolling as well:
Minor, Medium, and Major Magic Items: Refer to the appropriate column on Table 7-1: Random Magic Item Generation and use it to generate the specified number of magic items.
And look at that, you go to the first table in the Magic Items section, you find a table about making random Magic Items. You would have had to go to that chapter to determine everything else about the items anyways.

Actually I've found the SRD to be quite helpful in all other respects. Hyperlinks and multiple tabs mean I can quickly access any information I need. Very helpful when looking for what spells to take, since hyperlinks mean I can instantly teleport from a list of 2nd level sorcerer spells to the description for Glitterdust to the exact effects of being blinded, rather than flip back and forth across the book.
