40pt buy Ravenloft Build

Hey guys, I'm in a Ravenloft game and the group keeps on splitting up and that a bad thing to do in any setting let alone ravenloft.

I need help to make a build that will maximise my character's chance to survive my himself and in a group. And I also need to be capable of pvp as sometimes the guys get stupid and other times the enemy gets smart.

Current character is ranger but I was thinking of a wizard, monk or a Spiked Chain specialist. I don't mind rogues but the sneak attack is annoying when you are up against undead and mind-affecting abilities are almost entirely out as almost everthing is immune to it. I am not interested in the RP of a paladin or a Cleric.

I don't remember if ravenloft has anything specifically against druids, but if not, then that's probably your best bet.
