Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
Later in the summer, towards the 1-year anniversary of the ToS, I may offer a challenge myself. Unlikely, but possible.
Stock answer:
"There's no shame in this, in a PC's banning. A PC who has done fine works. We're making a better world. All of them better worlds."
"I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there... any more than there is for you."Last edited by Doc Roc; 2010-04-20 at 02:32 PM.

Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
It is divinely granted, and thus technically banned, but I for one would have no problem with people playing them, provided they don't do that whole "summoning an Aspect of Bahamut" thing. I'll leave it to Doc Roc whether or not to make an exception though, since I had no input on that rule and can't claim to know its intent.

Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
I believe the intent was to stop shenanigans with the Divine Minions of Anhur, as well as Lolth-touched, and the like, which offer massive bonuses for little cost (LA 0, and LA 1, respectively). The former offers Wild Shape at will, at ECL 1, the latter? Well, just Crystalkeep it. +6 Str and Con, among other things.

Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
I don't think it should...it's a surprisingly simple method for killing your opponent:
Cast an extended rope trick. When it's about to go out, cast heavy hiding spells. When it is almost destroyed, move out with your move action, cast another extended Rope trick, then use a charge from your belt of battle to move into it. If they don't have a constant sensory mode, they couldn't find you. Ever, really.

Rope Tricks can be found and dispelled. Of course, if you're not a spellcaster...

Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
What's so broken about it? Is getting blindsight 100' feet and a sonic breath weapon really overpowered for a +2 LA template (since apparently you only get one attack and one quality)?
And do you know of any alternative templates with a LA that upgrade vermin/animals to magical beasts? That was the first one I could find, although I admit the ability to pick up either telepathy or blindsight was pretty tempting.Last edited by TheMadLinguist; 2010-04-20 at 10:27 PM.

Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
DM question:
SpoilerIf I (as an observer) spot a major error in a match, what should I do about it? For example, in a recent exhibition, one of the characters accidentally triggered one of their contingency effects during their buff rounds, and did not notice it until I pointed it out afterwards. Should I have interrupted the match immediately, notified a DM, or kept silent? The gnomes once had many mines, but now they have gnome ore.

I hadn't realized magical beasts were so good...
Why are magical beasts so good? Is there some sort of obscure superclass that requires type:magical beast or something?

Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
What about the Feral template from Savage Species?
Trying to make a Dragonborn X, Mongrelfolk (Penny Dreadful) monk trouble is the Penny Dreadful version loses proficiency with the kama, will have to burn a feat or find an item to gain proficiency in that. And those that verison work with the monk based PrCs like the Fist of the Forest?I am:

Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
Suppose I'll have to move over to half-dragon, then, though the +3 LA is going to be killer to buy off.
Any better type change options? Heck, I'd even accept abberation. I'd ask about spellwarped, but I suspect that'd be forbidden as well.Last edited by TheMadLinguist; 2010-04-20 at 10:57 PM.

Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
Bucky, and others who like to observe matches:
SpoilerIf you spot a blatant error or impossible action, you should be fine bringing it up with a DM and/or the player who made it. Posting in an ongoing match can cause it to grind to a halt, so you should only do that if it's really obvious there's a mistake and it's simple to fix, or when it's one of those rapid-fire stichomythia situations where failure to point out a problem will cause it to fall back several turns before a DM can review it, which is undesirable since it becomes rapidly harder to fix errors elegantly the longer ago they've taken place.
We'd like to monitor all the matches, but that's not always possible, so your help will be welcome overall.Editor and playtester for Legend.

Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
Yeah, but fortunately half-dragon has a template class, which makes it several orders of magnitude easier to buy off (breakpoints at 3, 6, and 9 instead of 9,15,18), since you can acquire the LAs gradually, and buy them off three levels after you get them.

Re: Test of Spite [3.5.3]
I'm thinking about making a character for this, but I have a quick question. I don't really know how LA buy off works, so forgive me if it's a stupid question, but if I bought of a LA of +1 would I still be a 13th level character here or a 12?
