Molding your own dungeon tiles.
Heya! Has anybody ever attempted to mold dungeon floors/walls etc.?
I am very interested in doing this but have yet to find a good set of instructions for doing so.
Any advice?Gary Gygax: "As an author, I also realize that there are limits to my creativity and imagination. Others will think of things I didn't, and devise things beyond my capabilities".
Also Gary Gygax: "The AD&D game system does not allow the injection of extraneous material. That is clearly stated in the rule books. It is thus a simple matter: Either one plays the AD&D game, or one plays something else."

Re: Molding your own dungeon tiles.
I would suggest to use a more specialist board for tips and tricks regarding this
Mostly warhammer 40k stuff but a few d&d projects are inside and I guess the tips & tricks for molding are universally usefull:

Or something more like this?

Or a board specialist on molding but I donīt know how active the board is:

Re: Molding your own dungeon tiles.
I've got a resin molding guide on google knol.
I've also got a wide range of experience with clay, plastics, and a bit of playing around with injection molding.
I started making a bunch of brick curb pieces a few weeks ago...started modeling up a chunk of a city. Got a lot more work to do yet, still, and christmas vacation is upon me. Feel free to ping me with any questions you have.
In general, you need to first think about what exactly it is you want. Is it a specific 3d map? Is it variously painted tiles you shuffle together to get the pattern you want?
There's nearly an infinite number of possible things out there, so determining what exactly you're after is the first step.

Re: Molding your own dungeon tiles.
I've done it with Miniatures, but not tiles. Depends on the substance you want to use, and how crazy you want to get with them. I guess, generally speaking, dungeon tiles would be easier than minis, as you'd worry less about undercuts and other technical issues.
But yes, I don't see why it'd be much more different than molding anything else."Okay, so I'm going to quick draw and dual wield these one-pound caltrops as improvised weapons..."
---
"Oh, hey, look! Blue Eyes Black Lotus!" "Wait what, do you sacrifice a mana to the... Does it like, summon a... What would that card even do!?" "Oh, it's got a four-energy attack. Completely unviable in actual play, so don't worry about it."

Re: Molding your own dungeon tiles.
The idea of using a snap together tile system for dungeons has appealed to me before...its just a matter of getting the time to actually do it.
If I could get it done, it'd be a pretty badass way to show a map.
