How do intelligent weapons "see?"
How do intelligent weapons "see?" Do they have their own senses, or do they see through the wielder's eyes? If the former, does it matter if they're in a scabbard or not? If the latter, do they need to be drawn an held, or just carried?

Re: How do intelligent weapons "see?"
They have their own senses. An unattended magic item can still see just fine. There is not a weapon in creation that is entirely covered in tis own scabbard, so I don't see the problem there.

Re: How do intelligent weapons "see?"
Is that a rule somewhere, or just common sense? (I'm curious to know if there's an official statement about it.)

Re: How do intelligent weapons "see?"
Per RAW? They're effectively constructs, with their own set of senses. They "see" based on themselves. Anything that'd block line-of-sight for a construct would block line-of-sight for the intelligent item (bearing in mind that the intelligent item gets "special" methods of sight depending on it's classification).

Of course, by the time I finish this post, it will already be obsolete. C'est la vie.

Re: How do intelligent weapons "see?"
Well, the gems commonly seen in the hilt of intelligent swords are in fact the lenses which focus onto a plate covered with tiny daemons that jump hard when exposed to light, putting pressure on a legion of micro-miniature pressure plates, each of which closes a contact switch, sending an monochromatic pixel array to the quasi-crystalline 'brain' of the intelligent item, which forms the inner core of the blade or other large metal part. This processes the array into a coherent image, much as the image centre of a humanoids brain.
Or its magic.
Your choice.Last edited by Ravens_cry; 2009-12-28 at 06:05 PM.
