Re: [3.5] Are psions able to learn powers from power stones?
They can't learn them permanently (I think), but if a psion successfully makes contact with a power stone, they can manifest a power within on the next round. If you keep the power stone around, you can do this 1/day.

Re: [3.5] Are psions able to learn powers from power stones?
You might consider letting a psion use a power stone to obtain some kind of discount on the XP cost of learning the power contained via independent research.
Learning new powers as a psion is not so easy as learning new spells as a wizard - this seems to me the most reasonable baseline to work from.

Re: [3.5] Are psions able to learn powers from power stones?
Erudites (CPsi) are the only characters that can truly learn powers from power stones. But they are slightly more limited in what they can manifest each day than a Psion (though not as much as a Wilder.)
@ kami - though the wording is ambiguous, independent research for psions is implied to be like that of sorcerers - i.e. that doing so will still use a spell (power) known slot.Last edited by Optimystik; 2010-01-18 at 08:10 AM.

Re: [3.5] Are psions able to learn powers from power stones?
Try comparing it to Psychic Chirurgery.
Psychic Chirurgery is more expensive and requires coercing a 17th level manifester into helping you; on the other hand it's 10 minutes vs. weeks of complete inaction, which might not be readily available in a given campaign. If a tree falls in a forest, the Druid will make sure you hear about it.

Re: [3.5] Are psions able to learn powers from power stones?
Actually, I rescind that - independent research for Psions requires a Psicraft check while sorcerers don't, so it stands to reason that theirs would be a little stronger. Though I think that allowing Psions to circumvent their powers known limitation in this way (researching "independent powers" that are functionally identical to existing ones) has great abuse potential.

Why? Psion use XP to learn.
Wizards use gold (easy to acquire more).
