(3.5) Does anyone know of any good free mapmaking programs
Hey y'all, i was wondering if anyone knew of any good mapmaking download programs i can use to make worlds and domains for my game, free if possible and user friendly. I do enjoy making them by hand, but work and life doesn't leave me alot of time to hand draw maps. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

MS Paint. I use it for all my maps, since
1) I cant draw
2) Its simple
3) the players usually write all over the map
On a more costly note, however, very very good.

Good stuff.

Checking out Autorealm, looks pretty useful. Thanks for all the help. Any other places that would be useful to know about, and any tips to map and world making?

I have Campaign Cartographer 3. It looks awesome, and I'd be able to make awesome maps if I was able to use it.

- Dungeoncrafter + Classic Blue Tiles for dungeons
- Hexmapper for overland maps
- Kev's Lounge tilesets for tactical maps
Wow, deja vu

Well the most amazaing maps I´ve seen yet are made with normal paint programs paint.net or paintshop.
CC3 is also pretty good although the maps do look a bit generic (but still pretty good) I own that one because my painting skills are only mediocre at best ^^
part of my current campaign map: http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/229/carsyr4.jpg easy to use and okayish results even without much talent ^^
I really disliked autorealm not that easy to use and the results where not all that spectacular.
gimp looks pretty nice though will have to test it some day
For dungeon maps I really like the wotc tiles http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061121t sadly not enough variety for my taste but still goodLast edited by Emmerask; 2010-02-06 at 10:25 AM.
