[3.5] Wing clipping enemies
I am planning to make a Dwarven Warblade who heavily focuses on Stone Dragon maneuvers, but I notice that almost all the best SD maneuvers require my target to be on the ground.
While early levels don't bother me, it's the higher level, where everything flies, that worry me.
So, are there any way to bring my enemies to the ground so I can pummel them with my Greathammer of Stony Doom?Last edited by BenTheJester; 2010-02-09 at 11:57 PM.

Re: [3.5] Wing clipping enemies
Tripping flying enemies makes them fall (provided they use wings or other (Ex) means to do so.)

Re: [3.5] Wing clipping enemies
Kill them.
Alternatively, if they're magically flying, you can get an item that casts dispel magic a few times per day. Or several items.Last edited by Temotei; 2010-02-10 at 02:14 AM.

Re: [3.5] Wing clipping enemies
There's a cleric spell called Downdraft that works well.

There's also a pair of arcane spells in the Miniatures Handbook: Undeniable Gravity and Legion's Undeniable Gravity.

Re: [3.5] Wing clipping enemies
You could also ask your DM for a homebrewed magic net that tightens by itself (if that doesn't already exist). There should be plenty of spells you could enchant it with that would explain the auto-tightening.

Re: [3.5] Wing clipping enemies
Stall until it's night time, hope the moon looks sickle shaped (new waxing moon or late waning moone) and lead the flying enemy to a road. With any luck, they'll get dragged down onto the road and decapitated by the Headless Horseman.
Failing at that, you can always try using a net. The range increment is a little low, but 'Distance' is a +1 enhancement so you could get a 20 ft. RI out of it. Once you hit, you can wrestle the creature to the ground. It likely won't work against huge or bigger creatures, though.D20 Modern Complete HTML SRD

Again, if you're friends with the wizard- the silent image series can also be effective at bringing flyers down.

Re: [3.5] Wing clipping enemies
Reversed Seek the Sky will ground them for five rounds with no save.
Downside: Requires a Truenamer. Not worth it unless you can get it on a magic item.
Failing that, I don't have my book open, but I THINK that the Rod of Viscid Globs (MIC) could help. Don't quote me on that, though. In the Beginning Was the Word, and the Word Was Suck: A Guide to Truenamers

Re: [3.5] Wing clipping enemies
Yeah, Tanglefoot Bags at range (the Rod of Viscid Globs) is pretty much no-save crash on anything with maneuverability of less than perfect (half speed on something that needs at least half speed to stay up and needs to go lower than max to turn...).

Re: [3.5] Wing clipping enemies
my DM lets me use telekinesis + tanglefoot bags (ranged touch, because im using telekinesis's burst/launch setting) to ground flying enemies, but its a houserule, pretty much anything that sends a tanglefoot bag into the air at a decent speed

See, the thing is, energy in D&D does not mean the same thing as it does in Physics.

Dragon magazine #344 has things called "wing clips". Designed for dragons, should do the trick.

The Spell Compendium has a spell called "Wingbind" for this purpose.
