how fast?
how fast can the single fastest dnd 3.5 character travel on foot in a single round at level 20? i realize monks get really good foot speed, so i was thinking that combine him with a few magic items, and one could effectively travel at a mile a minute.
Spoiler
In the past, I played Sir Theo Roost.
I am soon to begin playing his heir, Dora the Destroya

Re: how fast?
Very fast. I know an Archivist using Shapechange and Greater Visage of the Deity can charge 1200 feet (and they still get an attack at the end!). And that's without trying at all.

Re: how fast?
I do believe that build is no longer legal, due to Footsteps errata that makes it incompatible with Persist Spell.

Re: how fast?
Expanding on the Archivist, just using spells:
Shapechange into a cheetah (ground speed 50ft)
Expeditious Retreat (Celerity domain) (base land speed is now 80ft)
Greater Visage of the Deity (fly speed 160 ft)
Aerial Alacrity (Sky domain) (+30ft to fly speed, now 190 ft)
Haste (Celerity domain) (+30ft to fly speed, now 220ft)
Sprint (Ex ability of cheetah): 2200ft charge. Woot.

Re: how fast?
Expeditious Retreat and Haste are both Enhancement bonuses to speed, and thus don't stack.

Re: how fast?
Expeditious retreat is explicitly stated to have no effect on other modes of movement. It is entirely possible to rule the land speed bonus granted by it is not able to boost the fly speed, even indirectly, as the spell explicitly states it can have no effect on other movement modes.

Re: how fast?
Some DM's would rule it that way.
Others would ask the following:
"Under your interpretation, is your flying speed higher than if you hadn't cast Expeditious Retreat?"
When you answered yes, the followup would be:
"Then your interpretation causes Expeditious Retreat to affect a mode of movement other than land speed. Therefore, it's not valid."
In other words? Your mileage may vary. Check with your DM.Last edited by PhoenixRivers; 2010-02-14 at 07:31 AM.
