Which Gestalt character that you played was the most fun

I am not looking for min/maxed power necessarily, although I am not ruling it out. I asked for "played" characters to remove some theory-craft. After all something that might be fun on paper might end up not so fun in a real game. So I guess you could include characters you have "seen" played by another at your table, that seem to be fun.

Oh, also we play without Tomb of battle, Tomb of magic, DMM and a number of abusable rules (that you also probably play without). Yet, another reason I am asking for practical, used characters.

Please specify the levels you play them, and when they were most fun (and why).

I think the whole community can benefit from this.

Not the most optimized but fun choices to make is a arcane caster//arcane caster. You will always have the right spell for the situation.

Wizard//Sorcerer - I played on of these from level 1 to level 10, though we played with the exp cut in half (to compensate fighting higher CR monsters). As far as I am concerned, lack of spontaneous casting is the wizard's only weakness.

I once ran a Whisper Gnome Monk/Tattooed Monk//Ninja/Assassin that used/abused Astetic Stalker. He wasn't broken at all ! he did nearly die to a Commoner/Focused Specialist//Focused Necromancer/Archmage who created an army of undead chicken nukes

I'd say my favorite character would be a Wizard/Monk, with the "Kung Fu Genius" feat. For those who aren't familiar with it, it was from the Dragon Compendium (Also Dragon #319) and let you use Int instead of Wis for your Monk abilities :D

My favorite Gestalt was probably my Spirit Shaman/Favored Soul. Having a ridiculously large number of spells per day was fun, and I ended up saving everyone else's life ten times over by the end of the campaign. Also, taking that Dragonlance feat to only use Wisdom for spells was fun.

Rogue//Factotum. Able to contribute to every aspect of gameplay, without beeing cheesy or overpowered. Just plain fun.

Maybe not as specific as you want, but Factotum//something that likes Intelligence is a ton of fun from level 8 onward, when you can start getting extra standard actions. Obviously spellcasters gain the most benefit, but even getting an extra attack in is somehow thrilling. You also have the skill points and selection to be a first-rate skillmonkey out of combat.

Wizard and psion work excellently if you like spells. Beguiler isn't bad either, for a more focused selection, but a lot of the class features are redundant with the Factotum. Factotum X//Swashbuckler X/Master Thrower 5 is a lot of fun, too - Swashbuckler gets you +int to damage as long as you use light throwing weapons, and Master Thrower will let you throw an absurd number of daggers per standard action.

yeah I know... Soulknife, but think about it. You go around infiltrating and can pull out a massive sword at will that no one will ever suspect you of carrying. Add in Hide in Plain Sight and dimension door every d4 rounds and you have quite the assassin. He can look like anybody and thus attack people when they least expect it. Add the mageslayer feat tree for extra wizard assassinating fun.

Sorcerer // Bard... actually because the GM didn't mind a fair amount of cheese it ended up as Sorcerer5/Spellsword1/Incantrix2//Bard6/Fighter2. And I was approved to go into Sublime Chord and have PrCs on both sides of the gestalt. Finally a spontaneous caster with a good number of spells known, and a good number of feats and class abilities.

It was too bad the campaign ended when it did. We tended to go in for 10-12 encounters a day rather than 1-4. And I was just getting to the point I was spending most of my time spellcasting rather than carefully limiting myself to one spell per fight.

Probably not nearly en par in regards of sheer power with other suggestions, but: Warblade//Rogue/Swashbuckler/Nightsong Enforcer, with another character who was a Swordsage//Rogue/Nightsong Infiltrator. The two were a very dynamic team, worked very well together and snarked at each other all the time.

I played a lurk//bladesinger once. That was a kick.

It certainly wasn't a combat powerhouse, but Mental Assault and a couple sneak attack dice gave me my share of spotlight.

The high point was probably the duel I had with the BBEG's bodyguard (a Cleric or Blackguard or something), alone inside a crowd of bearded devils. The tumbling, teleporting dynamics of the fights were fun, even if I couldn't really hurt more than two or three baddies per day.

And outside combat, I had a few low-level Lurk powers and Beguiler spells to toss around, so I was able to do pretty well sneaking around doing the infiltrator/skillmonkey thing.

My only qualm was with being killed by the party cleric's giant vermin-ed spiders when she and the ranger planeshifted to chase down the BBEG during the campaign's final conflict.
That was a bit less than narratively satisfying.

Whispergnome Rogue/ Swashbuckler /Swordsage /Telfammar Shadowlord // Shadowcaster with the feats Magic in the Blood, Craven, and Silencing Strike (among the others necessary for TSL). Basically ended up being an extremely sneaky pseudo-assassin. Too bad you're not using ToB or ToM.

One of my friends played a Factotum // Artificer that was extremely useful and resourceful under most circumstances. Another one from the same group played a Battle Sorcerer // Paladin.

Melee/magic is always a fun combination. Divine magic/arcane magic is great. I did all three and have a Ranger/Wizard(Abjurer, but she tends to do blasting unless her protections are needed). She's at level 10ish right now and she's as fun as she was at level 1... You can still attack from afar but instead of just arrows you can shoot spells as well, and if you run out of spells you can go kill them anyway. Once you get close into melee you can start getting into quickened touch attacks combined with the two weapon fighting deal (quickened spell to incapacitate/debuff/whatever, then melee attack)... I just like combining the tough classes with the squishy.

While you don't play with Tome of Battle; your post still invites gestalt characters that have been fun by our experiences; and you mention this as a community benefiting endeavor; so here's my character.

Devotion - 5th Level Warblade/Psion - AKA Paladinus Maximus Apparatus
Devotion was my character in one of the very few gestalt games I've been in. He was a Warforged who sought a purpose in life after the Last War. He was a skilled and dedicated warrior, and developed powerful mental strength as part of his training and design. After the war, he took the name Devotion because of what the name meant to him; for he himself was devoted to certain ideals that he felt were universal to all living things - freedom, justice, kindness, and honor. He's effectively a Paladin - though not in the basic sense; but for all role-playing purposes he was a fine Paladin. His role in the party was being the tank and defender of the squishies - which earned him the nickname Tankmaster3k (OOC).

The Psion/Warblade combo stacked up pretty decently. Ended up with a great HD, BAB, Saves, and Skill points. They have some skill synergy (both classes can make good use of Concentration) and power Synergy (psionics isn't screwed by armor and has a lot of self-buffs and movement abilities); also both classes could make use of Intelligence in one form or another.

In play he sported a lot of leadership based abilities. He mostly specialized in White Raven maneuvers such as Lead the Charge (give allies bonus charging damage), Douse the Flames (prevent AoOs for your allies), etc. He also sported a few Iron Heart maneuvers (Wall of Blades was great for tanking sometimes), and a few Stone Dragon maneuvers ('cause +2d6/ignore Hardness was needed for a tank, and was also pretty sweet thematically on the Adamantine Warforged).

He used his Psionic Powers to pull Psicrystal + Vigor + Shared Vigor + Share Pain + Share Pain -->. We called this technique "Shield of the Martyr". He also favored the power Dimension Swap, which allowed him to swap positions with party members on the battlefield; to put himself into danger and the innocent out of it. Most of his offensive powers were battlefield control powers. Stuff like entangling ectoplasm "Deva's Shackles" or wall of ectoplasm "Veil of Heaven".

He was a blast to play. I only wish that game could have went on longer. It's rare that I'm not DMing.

A Gold Dwarf Paladin 10/Dwarven Defender 10//Knight 10/Samurai (OA) 10, who died from a rope bridge hanging over the gate of Hell (near infinite fall damage)

A Half-Elf Half-Drow Warblade//Marshall who's leadership begot a TPK from a silenced boulder

and Last, a Necropolitan Elan Generalist/Archmage//Psion/Arch Psion, who wasn't able to defeat Vecna (who was retooled to be a Wizard//Archivist) in a Mage Duel to the death

I have never played in a gestalt campaign and the entire idea of it doesnt really seem fun to me =\

Probably because my favorite levels are the do or die 1-3. Im a big fan of dirt groveling, being under powered, and magic items rarely being handed out.

But if I HAD to make a gestalt character a wizard rogue really seems fun to me.
