Default How do I run games over the net with my old college group?

We're getting the band back together!

My old gaming group from college has all moved away from each other, but the itch is still there. We would like to try Skype gaming (or other appropriate brand name for getting us together in a virtual room). What is everyone's best methods for gaming online in real time?

    Items of note:
    1) I am the most technically savvy of the group, and I'm not that good. Simple is almost certainly better.
    2) Online on-the-fly mapping would be neat
2a) Especially if everyone has access to the map and can update it themselves
    3) Video conferencing is much preferred over old school IRC text gaming

    Thank you everyone!

    rptools.net

Works great for me and some of my friends.

Some of my friends play via gmail, that way they have a record of everyone's turns (and people don't all have to be online at the same time).

openRPG is a fantastic tool. It gets hard to use if you try to do really complicated stuff, but overall you just install it, update it, and then go to town. It has a ton of cool features:
    GM Godliness
good map system (fog of war, several different layers, terrain, etc)
    good dice roller
    good character-storing system
macros for common operations (like rolling damage, etc)
    good chat/private chat/private rolls system

    I highly recommend it.

Secondly, spellgen is an awesome program for spellcasters of all kinds. Seriously. It rocks.

EDIT: we use a skype conference call to play through, using the openRPG chat interface for private information and rolls.

http://www.dabbleboard.com is good for on the fly mapping in the really easy category. Just change the settings so enable the grid, and use a different measurement than 1 square = 5', 2 squares = 5' works well.
