Default [D&D 3.X/Pathfinder] More templates for summoned monsters

    Branching this off from here.

Why should we be restricted to merely celestial and fiendish animals with summoning spells, there's a whole load of other planes and themes that could be used.

They need to be low LA, to keep them in line with the original ones. I'd say that you also need to restrict people to not having all of them, because otherwise you'd have a summonable for every situation.

What types of templates do we want?

    Stuff relating to:
    1. Shadow/Dark
    2. Fire
    3. Cold/Ice
    4. Water
    5. Acid
    6. Light
    7. Electricity
    8. Ethereal-ish?
    9. Stone
    10. Air

... that's a random list off the top of my head. Feel free to add more.

For comparison, in 3.5, celestial and fiendish get you the following:

    • Darkvision 60
    • Spell Resistance = HD +5
    • Smite Good/Evil – Once a day, one of your normal melee attacks gets +HD to damage.
    • DR 5 to Acid'n'Lightning'n'Cold/Fire'n'Cold (becomes 10 @ 8HD)
    • DR 5/magic @ 4HD, 10 @ 112HD

And in Pathfinder celestial and fiendish get you the following:

    • Darkvision 60
    • Spell Resistance = CR +5
    • Smite Good/Evil – Swift action, pick a target. + charisma to hit, +HD to damage till it's dead or you rest.
    • DR 5 to Acid'n'Lightning'n'Cold/Fire'n'Cold (becomes 10 @ 5HD, 15 @ 11 HD)
    • DR 5/opposed alignment @ 5HD, 10 @ 11HD

    So, lets make some templates...

Starting on page 15 or so, the compilation lists templates for creatures from all the elemental, paraelemental, energy, and alignment planes, as well as a couple odd ducks like the shadow, radiant, and wood elemental templates. If not quite what you're looking for, it still makes a nice starting point.

The majority of those are rather too powerful compared to Ceiestial and Fiendish, I'd say.

Reposting the Air type (this is 'offhand' but is intended +0/+1 adjustment) with a couple of additions

    • Darkvision 60
    • Gains the [Air] Subtype, Animals become Magical Beasts
    • Spell Resistance = CR + 5
    • Evasion
    • Lightning Resistance 5 (10 @5HD, 15 @11HD)
    • DR 5/- @ 5HD, 10/- @11HD
    • Partially fluid outline gives +8 racial bonus to hide checks, unaffected by extreme wind, counts as one size category smaller for purposes of combat maneuvers.
    • If the creature has a flight speed, it increases by 20ft and one maneuverability category, if not, it has a constantly active feather fall as a supernatural ability.
