    Default Tournament(3.5)

So, after the campaign is finished, I thought I would be making a little tournament of arms for the PC's to engage in(if they so decide of course). The tournament would be seperated. One would be for martial classes(warriors, monks, rogues, rangers and the other classes that rely on very sharp sticks causing a lot of pain), and the other would be for spellcasting classes(clerics, wizards, sorcerers and the like).

So, my question is really more for suggestions, about the types of classes that you think would be challenging for the party in the tournament. All fights are one on one, I predict the party will be level 13 at the moment it starts.

Before the fight, the contestants pass through a "wall of dispel" sort of thing that would make the fight fair for both sides as it removes all enchantments placed on them(that they do not have on their equipment that is). The spellcasting classes follow the wizard duel rules in the Rules Compendium and Complete Arcana(First round is to cast a spell that can affect only himself, be it a buff or something to bolster his or her magic defense, second round is to ready an action, a counterspell or the like, and the third one is to begin the duel). Now, I don't know how that will transcribe to clerics and other divine spellcasters when compared to mages.

There will be rewards for the first three places, with the one that comes in first place having the choice of choosing the reward(because I intend to make the rewards set, since different players have different ways of combat) plus being the only one of getting a monetary prize as well for their effort.

Thoughts, suggestions(especially on various classes that should take me quite some time to make, even good homebrew classes are an option here)?

Since you called for class suggestions, including homebrew, I feel like pimping two of my personal homebrew works.

First, a skillmonkey-like class that gives people nightmares from time to time: The Extinguisher. It revolves around darkness, gains extra damage from being in the dark, and can do crazy things with darkness effects. By level 13, the Extinguisher has access to Enervating Darkness, which is pretty brutal, and Body of Shadow, granting them continuous total concealment in darkness, also pretty good.

The other class is for the caster duel: the Rearranger. It's a transmutation specialist in the same way that the Dread Necromancer is a necromancy specialist, and has a good deal of battlefield control and rearrangement powers, which makes it a great tactical challenge.

You, and anyone else, are welcome to these creations. Just let me know how they work out for you.

All that I say applies only to myself. You author your own actions and choices. I cannot and will not be responsible for you, nor are you for me, regardless of situation or circumstance.

You just made me necromancify a thread. I hope you like being annoyed at. (I didn't know that the Haberdash the Masked thread was two years old.)

So, using a complete random set to choose various types of characters, I assembled a small team that I started to use against my players. The first round is already over and the guys were all triumphant in the first round.

The deal is that casting classes fight against casting classes, and fighter classes against fighting classes for balance sake. Also, no buffs before combat(a large Dispel effect around the entire arena before combat begins). Also, it's not to the death. Also pulled off is that there is a constant Revivify spell on the arena itself in case of death.

The question is, that I had sort of an idea of incorporating elements into the arenas, that is, that each fight has a "theme" to it. Perhaps fighting on a rickety bridge over a pool of a maelstorming pool beneath, or within a vortex of fire, a large arena in a jungle(one of the characters I rolled was a spell sniper prestige class which could be fun if pulled off well) but I lack the tools to pull it off, or rather some penalties in the actual game that I could explain to them. Do you lot have any similar experiences and/or ideas, as well as suggestions on what sort of different handicaps I could pull off the farther they get in the tournament. The first round is over, so there's the second round, the quarter finals, the semi's and the finals remaining.

If you didn't know that 2008 was a few years ago, it's hardly my fault.

    Good question

Have a Warlock that specializes in Dispelling for the spellcasting dual (there's an Invocation that dispels and deals damage IIRC). Warlock 13 should suffice.
