    Default 3.5 Buckler Questions.

Ok, so I'm playing a dwarven fighter. I'm trying to get my AC as high as possible, while wielding a dwarven war axe two handed.

Now, I'm thinking about taking a buckler to squeeze just a little bit more AC out, and I'm sufficiently confused some things that I need to ask someone.

When I attack with a weapon two-handed, I take a -1 to my rolls because of the buckler. It then goes on to say that I lose the AC of a buckler if I attack with a weapon in my off-hand. Does this apply to a two-handed weapon?

    I think I do, but I'm unsure.

I'm fairly sure you do lose it, however the feat improved buckler defense would remedy that.

Yes, you take a -1 and lose your buckler's bonus to AC if you attack. Improved Buckler Defense lets you keep the buckler's AC. Getting and Animated Heavy Shield is the way to go, though, assuming your DM allows them.

    Isfreak - That's MUCH better.

    Thanks for the input!

If you have the cashflow, and your DM allows homebrew magic items built to the DMG tables, then I would highly recommend a "Ring of Shield" NOT the one they have premade, but take a "Shield" spell, and slap it on a ring. The price would be as follows for a continuous item
    Spell Level(1) X Caster Level(1) X 2000 X 2 (1 min/level duration) = 4000 gp
this would give you a +4 Shield Bonus to AC
the Ring the DMG presents is 8500 gp and only gives you a +2 Shield Bonus to AC

the homebrew one is a force effect that negates magic missile and works against incoporeal touch effects

nothing in the spells text or the rings description of the DMG ring says that it does either of those

Although breath weapons can't go through the ring in the DMG. Good for dragons.

Are there any rules for 2 handed shields?

Except, of course, that it also says "look at similar items" "For things that apply fixed bonuses, look at this other table" and similar. That +4 Shield AC is "AC bonus (other)", at 2,500 gp * bonus squared: 40,000 gp market, assuming it's slotted correctly.
Of course, by the time I finish this post, it will already be obsolete. C'est la vie.
