Well, do we have any tropers here who would be willing to make the page? I'm not a troper...

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Even so, if we go ahead and start categorizing our tropes now, when someone finally does make the page it will be far simpler for them. Silver, if you are willing to add the tropes for the plot and setting, I think it would be a reasonable request for everyone else to look up the tropes to their characters.
For example
Nil
Heart Is An Awesome Power
Blue Ghost is an actual pacifist, Lix has fire power, etc etc.Last edited by Saint Nil; 2010-12-10 at 08:33 PM.

I can't help but feel that She Is Not My Girlfriend is all too perfect here for Kurama, even if he never says such a thing.

FASTEST TROPER ALIVE POWERS GO!
So, yeah, I'm a troper. I'm not the most skilled with the page formatting, but I'd be happy to make a page if you guys can offer up some ideas for the tropes themselves.
To the TropeMobile! Actual page for the work forthcoming!

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
My trope-fu might be weak in editing examples right into the page, but I can pile those I find here (some spoilers when adding them to the page proper are propably in order, though).
Grim's tropes:
Implacable Man: Implacable enough to take on [the entire paladin order single-handedly] and withstand being throw through walls and held in incapacitating arm lock with naught but minor annoyance. The scary part? [Were it not for the beacon weakening his regenerative abilities by causing him to constantly spend his strenght to avoid excruciating pain, he would have likely been completely invulnerable to all attacks thrown at him]
Blood From The Mouth: How he eventually dies.
Big Sleep: Goes out surprisingly quietly after all the trouble heroes went through to get him Killed Off For Real.
Pride: Grim's Fatal Flaw
From Nobody to Nightmare: From ordinary kid to first Blackguard and nearly destroyer of paladin order, to be specific.
Dark Is Not Evil: It is implied that while he was still Jerkass whilst a paladin, he was not evil.
Dark Is Evil: After going rogue, that is.
Play Along Prisoner: Exactly as planned.
Healing Factor: Grim's secondary power.
The Starscream: it is implied that Grim would have eventually turned against Mangosta, having his own plan to cut the demons loose after they had served their purpose.
Chekhov's Gunman: First seen in part 1 and returns in part 17 after his Face Heel Turn
Dark and Troubled Past: Got this instead of Convinient Orphany of the rest of the paladins.
Other tropes:
The Stinger: Recaiden speaking with [The King]
Training From Hell: Viola receives good-natured version of this from Rabbit.
Your Days Are Numbered: At least according to Recaiden they are if you end up in his hit list. Bonus points for explaining the manner of victim's death in detail beforehand, too.
Reasonable Authority Figure: Mordokai
Big Bad: Mangosta the Demon King
Manipulative Bastard: Mangosta. Just...Mangosta. The number of characters that have NOT been manipulated by him during the course of the first arc can be counted with one hand.
Nigh Invulnerability: Mangosta has this, as he just will not stay dead, no matter what. Even Grim does not know what it would take to kill him.
Not Quite Dead: The heroes shatter Mangosta to pieces. He is very much not dead.
Convenient Coma: Happens to paladins who get separated from their crystals.
Nothing Can Stop Us Now: Or so [Grim] thinks when [night falls, amplifying his power to even greater heights. He is proven wrong]
Mutual Kill: [Grim and Viola] seemingly do this, but one part later it is revealed [that Viola survived. Grim bit it for real, though.]
Heroic BSOD: Happens to [Viola] after [she nearly gets killed by Recaiden]
Xanatos Gambit: [Mangosta] has rather impressive one, and one that almost comes to fruition and is stopped only thanks to one small detail that reveals just what his endgame is. The detail in question? [Grim was not catatonic when his crystal was removed from his immediate presence].Last edited by Grim ranger; 2011-01-03 at 02:43 PM.

Added Grim's list. Raz_Fox postet the link already, but to make it more visible: Paladin Academy of TvTropes
P.S.: What we really lack is characterization and character tropes.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Well now that it's up and I don't have to worry about being accused of adding some random work just because I post on the forum is was "published" on (what? ¬_¬") I'll see what I can do.
I think All There In The Manual would fit in for the stuff that's been submitted by posters but not used.
I'll add a character page if no one minds?
Speaking of which, which paladins have had their powers explicitly stated so far?Hi, I'm back, I guess. ^_^I cosplay and stream LPs of single player games on Twitch! Mon, Wed & Fri; currently playing: Nier: Replicant (Mon/Wed) and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (Thurs or Fri)

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
OK, I have some character entries for Viola and Kurama up. I'm not sure if anyone else counts as a "main" character but I'll put Penny in there too and the rest of the paladins in the section below.
EDIT: OK, I've added every character I can think of. Sorry if I've missed some.
I'll leave it up to you guys to flesh the descriptions out some more and add quotes; http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph...PaladinAcademyLast edited by BisectedBrioche; 2010-12-11 at 11:24 AM.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Hang on, let me ask someone that.
"Mr. Berkley and Mr. Hume, is this essay satisfactory to get a passing grade in my class?"
-Berkley-"Well, the matter with which your 'essay' is supposably compsed of does not exist. God needs to percieve your essay, but only if you percieve it properly in turn. Therefore, you must continue to work to make sure the essay is properly percieved by god so he can then transfer the proper sensory information to you as he does to everyone in the world, especially your teacher, so that they may percieve it correctly. Only then will you possibly be able to obtain the good grade you desire."
-Hume-"Just because in the past you have had sympathetic teachers doesn't guarantee that this one will be that way either. You may think that you have done it perfectly in the format the teacher wants, but your knowledge of this is not obtained by observation or experience of the teacher you have been learning from this semester. Reason alone can not determine that your essay, no matter how well thought out, will ever be able to give you that good grade you want."
Thank you guys. That means no, I can't start this yet. I shall now go back into this corner and continue my dry hate.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Even without an update this thread isn't ripe for hibernation again.
Lets speculate:
Kurama has established himself as a clean love interest, one might eben be tempted to call Viola/Kurama a canon couple. But the second season is coming and I wonder if it will all go so smoothly.
There are quite some manga-style romantic complications that might come up.
- Kurama is taking it slow. What if some other young handsome paladin confessed to Viola before he does? (or vice versa)
- Kurama and Viola have unlocked their crystals and are now two of the most famous and powerful paladins in the academy. Maybe they'll start to attract groupies, which might induce jealousy.
Other questions:
- It seems the crystal's call will not only unlock for each person differently but also in ways that contradict the academy's teachings. Will there be a change of thinking?
- The paladins learn to use swords but not to wrestle, which is very uncommon (historically/realistically seen). Now that Viola has shown that unarmed combat is an important part of melee combat, even if using a weapon (just think of using a sword in very close quarters or against heavily armored opponents), will the curriculum expand?
- How does the paladin's tactics against ranged opponents look like? Are there actually paladins who don't use swords but other weapons?
