Half Fiend grants weapon proficiencies?

Implicit in the title...

The Outsider type, which Half-Fiend grants, has simple and martial weapon profs. So does taking the template grant the proficiencies?

Unless otherwise mentioned in the specific thing making you an Outsider, yes.

Why are you taking half fiend? If it's for the proficiencies there are probably other better ways to get that.

Probably they were taking half-fiend anyway but it's a small benefit that helps them qualify for something.

So, out of curiosity, what are you taking half fiend for? Flavor reasons I'd guess.

DM (me) is giving a free LA +4, and the player likes the fluff.
