[D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
After have a close encounter with a dragons breath I found my self without a charachter. I have ALWAYS played a Sorcere and for once i though id made one of thise "wizards"
I have been reading all my books and I cant seem to get a real cool combination.
First I thought somthing like Wizard(5) Master Specialist(10) Geometer(5)
Level 15
All books are a go!
Personal Rule:
A wizard that must only be eligible to cast spells from his spell book (no sorcerer stuff!).
Any of you who got a good ieader to this? I am open for all suggestions sins iem pritty flat on ieaders.

I'm not sure I understand your last sentence, but there are great guides on being a wizard that you can read. The two most popular are Treantmonk's and Logicninja's.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
IIRC, you can enter Master Specialist at level 3. So, if you want, you can add two levels of another prestige class in there that suits your flavor.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
Wizard 5 is wonderful for Spontaneous Divination, actually. And Wizard 6 if you want the extra +1 to BAB and all saves. The second is minor, though.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
Well, your build is solid - no lost caster levels, definitely very book-focused (Since a Geometer uses 1 page/spell regardless of spell level) and thus, rewards prepared casting.
Read the handbooks linked above for race/spell/feat suggestions and you should be fine.
I'm guessing the OP doesn't want any spontaneous spells.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
Domain Wizard 5 / Mindbender 1 / Incantatrix 8 / Warblade 1
Domain Wizard is better then Wizard. There is no reason to not take Mindbender. Incantatrix is so good it hurts. Warblade is to get Iron Heart Surge, and White Raven Tactics.Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
Mindbender is limited to neutral & evil characters, and Incantatrix is from the Forgotten Realms, and should have stayed there. Domain Wizard is not only better than Standard Wizard, but it also is better than specialist Wizards as I think they have access to all schools. It is pure cheese.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
Pity. Because never having to devote a mem spell to Divination is a GREAT ability.
Elf wizard substitution level at 1st (Races of the Wild)
Domain Wizard variant (Unearthed Arcana)
The first gives you 3 new spells per level instead of 2 and a bonus spell per day of your highest level. The second gives you a new spell every other level or so and a bonus spell per day at each level, though you're locked into a specific spell (or lower level metamagic enhanced one).
This extends your wizard's battery life and repertoire and fits into any build that allows an elf and doesn't require a specialist wizard..

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
Well, a lot of CO 'zards take spontaneous Divination, and use it to qualify for things, or just use it because it is totally amazingly good.
That said:
Wizard 3/Master Specialist 6/Initiate of The Sevenfold Veils 6
Simple, accessible, hideously effective.
Sources:
Master specialist is in Complete Mage
Complete Arcane
You'll want abrupt jaunt, from PHB II as well, if you can get it.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
15th level? Thats enough to squeeze in all 10 levels of Divine Oracle. That gives you Persistant Foresight so that you are never surprised. Since you are never surprised, you always have access to your immediate action spells like Greater Mirror Image, or the Abrupt Jaunt Alt Class Feature from PHBII.
You also get Evasion, Uncanny Dodge, a slightly more robust d6 HD, and medium (3/4) BAB. Not bad, especially if you can get the feat from the Frog God's Fane magical location (CMage or CScoundrel, forget which).
Be a focused specialist Conjourer while banning Enchantment, Evocation, and your choice of Necromancy or Abjuration. I'd pick Abjuration myself, Necromancy can be REALLY good if you stay away from spells with the [Death] descriptor. Ray of Enfeeblement is still good at level 15, especially if you Empower it. Likewise, Ray of Exhaustion is wonderful, and everyone loves False Life when it lasts most of the day. Plus, Enervation. That 1 spell alone is worth not dropping Necromancy. I'll take Enervation over Dispel Magic in just about every situation.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
I can't recommend that a new-ish player ban abjuration. I think you'd be fine with just a specialist wizard banning evocation and enchantment. I actually love playing specialist diviners, which means I only need to ban enchantment. There's a couple great divination spells at every level, many of them complete staples. So choose, but choose wisely.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
I was playing with a 15th level wizard as a BBEG for an ECL 12 dungeon crawl.
Then I realized that with the proper feat selection, he'd be opening off combat with a split-ray, chained, empowered, maximized Ennervation. 12 negative levels to anyone in the room.
... I went back to the drawing board after that.

I have to second Doc Roc, Diviners are fun to play. Diviner/Loremaster is a fine path, if you ask me.

The only Abjuration my 13th level Focused Specialist Conjourer really misses is Superior Resistance. Everything else is details.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
I dunno, Anti-magic field with Extraordinary Spell Aim is pretty nifty.
And ESA is also pretty nifty for Conjurers to begin with. "I exclude the Warblade from my Web."

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
Meh, I prefer Shape Spell to ESA. With Incatatrix you can walk around with a self exclusive persisted AMF.
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
Yeah, but for those of us who aren't persisting or taking free metamagic chains, ESA is a pretty sweet deal. Simple, reliable, only 1 feat, no PrC requirement.
All things being equal, ESA is one of the best feats out there for a generic wizard.Last edited by gbprime; 2010-07-01 at 03:54 PM.

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
No...I'd say Quicken Spell is probably the most quintessential high powered feat any wizard can take. More spells, more dakka, more power. If you are a smart Wizard, you quicken spells where the level difference doesn't matter because there is no save, and you use it to set up 1-2 combos.
Spells are strong. The more of them you can bring to the battlefield in a single round, the stronger you are. Quicken Spell does this.
Anyway, yea...back to the OP. Whatever you do is fine. Just don't lose any CLs!

Re: [D&D 3.5] Book Wizard!
So, actually, I'd say that arcane spellsurge basically put quicken even further to shame. Quicken's a terrible feat unless you're abusing MM reducers, but an amazing thing to pick up rods of. The existence of celerity makes it..... of questionable worth.
