Ranger Variant

So... how can you have a Ranger who instead of shooting you with arrows, shoots swords instead? Ridiculous I know, but not if its a sword of returning!

Quite easily, actually. Get swords with the Throwing and Returning enhancements.

Manyshot works only with bows, but Rapid shot and Improved Precise Shots work with thrown weapons as well.

You can apply the TWF/MWF feat tree to thrown weapons as well.

I find the exotic "cutting wheels" pretty cool myself... saving yourself the need for the throwing enchantment. (Secrets of Sarlona, pg. 135-7)

Exotic Light Melee weapon // 15gp // 1d6 dmg // 19-20 crit // 10 ft range inc // 1 lb. // Peircing and slashing // +2 against disarm attempts

You could also try to obtain the Telekinetic Boomerang psionic power (RotW) so that each affected weapon returns to you between each iterrative attack... meaning you only need one weapon in each hand during a full round attack.
