    Default Monitor issues

So, a little over two weeks ago, I bought a new LG widescreen monitor. Now, ONE FRIGGIN DAY PAST THE RETURN DATE, it doesn't work. If it's plugged in at all it simply flashes the LG logo, and completely ignores the power button.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

    Make sure it's plugged correctly.
Sometimes, things as simple as touching the cable might move it.

Also, make sure you installed it properly:
Do you have it tilted upwards or downwards? Sometimes things like that also affect it.

I've checked how it's plugged in- that's not the problem. I've also tried multiple cables, both DVI and VGA-neither worked. The same computer/vid card/power outlet works with my old monitor, so that's not the problem, either.

youve got a virus in your monitor!

.......... yeah.... sorry, thats kinda an inside joke with me and my friends, since the erm... how to put it politely. the daft one, of our friends had a problem with his monitor and took it to his friend who was good with computors, and he told him as a joke "youve got a virus in your monitor, you need a new one" when it was his graphics card. but the thing is, he believed him, and went and got a new monitor.

so now whenever someone is gullable or has a problem with their monitor it gets mentioned. i felt that even though the likely hood of some of my friends seeing this post was low, i still had to keep up the tradition.

in all seriousness. i have no idea.

If you've bought it only 2 weeks ago, it should still be within the manufacturer's warranty.

Admittedly, it's a lot more hassle to return something to the manufacturer, but it's probably cheaper than buying a new monitor.

Since you've checked the cables and it powers on, can you get into BIOS or start up in safe mode? Does the LG website have a list of known issues with your model of monitor?

When you say that it ignores the power button, do you mean that it seems as if it doesn't get any power at times, or that you can't turn it off?

At this point, having tried shifting cables and tried another monitor, I'd send it back for a new one, as I guess that you have at least one year warranty on it. You might want to check and see if there are any stores close by that handle warranty cases like this for LG, because then you might be able to get a new one asap.

As has been said already, even if the store's return policy is up, the manufacturer of the monitor usually has at least 1, often 3, years warranty where you can get a new monitor in exchange for the old one.

Go to the LG website and check there, and you'll find the warranty information and the phone numbers and/or e-mail adress that you need to contact them for a new monitor.

The best advice I can give is to call the store, and see what they say to do.

Since you are only 1 day after the return date, I would try to return it, or at least ask for an exchange. Most stores that I deal with are usually pretty good about this kind of thing.

Monitors are always a source of problems. Start with something smaller, like a gecko.
