There's no Hi-Nu Gundam in SRW Z, but it's okay because normal Nu kicks enough ass as it is. It's the highest tier Real Robot in this game - there are about 3-4 others, but all of them are terrible, terrible spoilers.

Except for one: Orguss. It doesn't look anything special at first, but Kei makes it badass. He is probably your best Real pilot in this game, and he's not even a Newtype!

As for Balgora, it probably doesn't receive a mass production version, due to... stuff... that happens. Maybe. It's complicated. You'll see when I get there.

    Character roster, part 2.

Can't find a series? Try looking in part 1.

    Eureka Seven characters
    Spoiler
    Show

    Eureka
A mysterious and strange girl. She treats her LFO, Nirvash, like her own child but doesn't get along with normal people.

    Renton Thurston
An adventure-hungry 14 year old. Starts to develop feelings for Eureka. He is a novice reffer, but has a lot of potential.

    Holland
Leader of the Gekkostate. An excellent pilot and reefer, but abrasive and a total jerk.

    Talho Yuki
Gekko-go's main pilot. She is playful, if harsh at times, but protective. Her relationship with Holland is obvious.

    Hilda
Holland's wingwoman and Gekkostate's quartermaster. Treats her job seriously but is laidback when not on duty.

    Matthew
Holland's wingman. Relaxed and easygoing. Often seems bored with life.

    Stoner
Gekkostate's photographer for its anti-government ray=out magazine. Usually hitches a ride in Matthew's LFO.

    Hap
Gekko-go's second in command, also responsible for finances and monitoring combat situation. Usually content with life.

    Gidget
Responsible for communications and anything else that needs to be done. Airheaded, but considerate of others.

    Ken-Goh
Theoretically owner of the Gekko-go, and its gunnery chief. A legendary marksman and also a great painter.

    Moondoggie
He was the least experienced from Gekkostate, but then Renton came along. His accent is really hard to understand and even harder to translate into English.

    Maurice, Maeter and Lincks
Collectively known as Maurice Maeterlincks. Trio of children that Eureka adopted. They're very jealous of her and really do not like Renton.

    Jurgens
Captain of an UF unit tasked with capturing the Nirvash. A veteran soldier who takes his task seriously.

    Dominic Sorel
Second lieutenant of UF. Temporarily serves as Jurgens' adiutant. Rather naive and inexperienced.

    Dewey Novak
An extremely intelligent, but also bloodthirsty and sociopathic man. He used to be a high standing UF member, but was incarcerated for treason.

    Council of Sages
Shadowy trio that rules over the UF.

    Axel Thurston
Renton's grandfather. He is rather grumpy and impatient but cares deeply about his grandson.

    Baldios characters
    Spoiler
    Show

    Marin Raygun
Born on planet S-1, he found his way to Earth by accident. He opposes Gattler's violent ways and wants to stop his invasion.

    Jack Oliver
Pilot in the service of Blue Fixer. Calm and composed, but hates the invading aliens.

    Raita Hokuto
A Blue Fixer pilot. Strong-headed and determined to stop the invasion.

    Doctor Era Quinstein
Creator and leader of the Blue Fixer military organisation. She is forced to cooperate with the Federation.

    Furikku Getsuei
Designer of Blue Fixer's combat machines.

    Jamie Hoshino
Member of Blue Fixer, but she specialises in on-foot operations rather than piloting anything.

    Zeo Gattler
Leader of the Aldebaran. He is ruthless and manipulative, and will not stop until Earth is his.

    Roza Aphrodia
Gattler's loyal lieutenant. She had a younger brother, who died during the coup, and she blames his death on Marin.

    Emperor
S-1's old ruler. He was benevolent and tried to restore the planet's environment via science. Unfortunately, he was killed in the coup.

    Gravion characters
    Spoiler
    Show

    Eiji Shigure
A hot-headed and impulsive teenager. He searches for his older sister who mysteriously vanished years ago.

    Touga Tenkuji
Naive but friendly young man who spent his whole life in Sandman's castle. His personality turns into a serious one when he pilots Grankaiser and Gravion.

    Luna Gusuku
Energetic and friendly. She is nice towards Touga and most other people, but likes to tease Eiji for her own amusement.

    Mizuki Tachibana
The only adult Gran Knight, and she treats all other members as little siblings. She likes alcohol and parties, but is rational and collected.

    Eina
One of Sandman's maids. Clumsy and easily frightened, but she co-pilots the G-Driller to battle anyway.

    Leele
A mysterious girl who lives alone in Sandman's castle. Revealed to be the pilot of G-Shadow.

    Klein Sandman
A fabulously rich and eccentric philanthrope. His motivation is to protect the Earth, and his wealth and influence allow him to remain independent.

    Raven
Sandman's mysterious assistant. Nobody knows about his past nor have they seen the face underneath his mask.

    The Maids
Responsible for maintaining Sandman's castle and serving his guests. There's so many of them! I'm jealous... these three are personal assistants to Sandman.

    Chibi Maids
Trio of younger maids who went with the Gran Knights when they left Japan.

    Toria
The engineer maid. Most knowledgeable about Gravion, as she's the one who maintains it.

    Kukki
The security maid. Calm and professional when on the job. She doesn't use a giant robot, but is still a deadly combatant.

    President
Current president of the United States an annonymous but powerful country.

    Alex Smith
A hotshot pilot. His luck with women is as bad as his performance in combat.

    Lolotte
    Leene's pet ferret.

    Godsigma characters
    Spoiler
    Show

    Toshiya Dan
A young martial artist and test pilot. He was born on a distant space colony, but came to Earth to test Trinity Energy-powered robots.

    Julie Noguchi
Professor Kazami's assistant. Spent a lot of work on Trinity Energy and has great expectations concerning it.

    Kensaku Kira
Experienced combatant and pilot. He is reliable but a bit hotheaded.

    Professor Kazami
Brilliant inventor. Researched Trinity Energy, which is potent enough to potentially supply the whole world with power.

    Rie Haruhi
No, not that Rie and not that Haruhi. Professor Kazami's assistant. She hopes Trinity Energy will not be abused for evil.

    Commander Teral
Leader of the Eldar invasion. Wants to capture Trinity Energy and, despite disliking excessive violence, is willing to do it.

    Ritsu
Teral's subordinate. Thick-headed and straightforward in combat.

    Jeerah
Teral's subordinate. She's more tactically-minded than Ritsu, but less experienced.

    Marcino
A wealthy and rather suspicious businessman, he was funding Trinity Energy and Godsigma research for the reason of monopolising the former and using the latter as a personal one-robot army.

    Minako
Marcino's daughter. A bit airheaded but honest and scrupulous unlike her father. Very obviously in love with Toshiya.

    Genesis of Aquarion characters
    Spoiler
    Show

    Apollo
A wild, almost animal-like young man. He is supposedly the reincarnation of a mythical hero, but who knows? He mostly cares about food, but also values his friends.

    Silvia de Alisia
Heiress of a noble house. She possesses great physical strength. Hates grime and dirtiness, so obviously she doesn't like Apollo too much. But she likes her older brother Sirius. Really likes.

    Sirius de Alisia
Silvia's older brother. Skilled and elegant in swordsmanship and most other things he does. He is determined to restore his house to its former glory.

    Pierre Vieira
An excellent soccer player. He is very energetic but also empathetic towards others. Can control the element of fire.

    Lihua
Melancholic and sensitive, she seems to attract the worst of luck. Her teammates call her "Reika".

    Glenn Anderson
A close friend to Lihua and Sirius. Pragmatic and composed in combat, he was the original pilot of Vector Sol.

    Gen Fudou
A skilled but very mysterious magician. He was with DEAVA but left in mysterious circumstances years ago. Very eccentric and likes to talk in nigh-incomprehensible riddles and sayings.

    Rena Rune
Albino gothic lolita on a wheelchair. Possibly a vampire. She has strange abilities and likes reading books.

    Jean-Jerome Jorge
Second in command of the DEAVA organisation (was first but Gen Fudou took over). Impatient, arrogant and pessimistic. His goal is the defeat of Shadow Angels.

    Sophia Belin
A skilled researcher and scientist. Kind and compassionate, she shares her knowledge with Aquarion's pilots and acts like a teacher to them.

    Chloe and Kurt Klick
Fraternal twins who can contact each other telepathically. They serve as DEAVA's mission control.

    Baron
Apollo's first and best friend. He was abducted by Shadow Angels.

    Apollonius
Legendary hero of the old. He was a Shadow Angel himself, but rebelled against his own kind to defend humans and his love, the mortal Celiane.

    Holy Angel Toma
A very powerful Shadow Angel. He loved Apollonius and put himself in suspended animation to await his return.

    Music Angel Otoha
Shadow Angel who can create beautiful, mesmerizing music. She is a willing servant to Toma and loves him deeply.

    Orguss characters
    Spoiler
    Show

    Kei Katsuragi
Pilot of an anti-Federation team. Extremely skilled despite his laidback, friendly attitude. A shameless womanizer. His group was destroyed, but now he joined the Emaan trading ship Glomar.

    Orson D. Verne
Kei's friend and wingman. Only slightly less skilled, but infinitely more serious.

    Mimsy Laaz
Strong-willed vice-captain of Glomar, an Emaan trade ship. At the peak of her fertility, so she is engaged and courted by Slay.

    Shaya Thoov
Glomar's captain, she is gentle but also a shrewd businesswoman. She holds strong reverence to Emaan traditions.

    Maie and Lea
Twin sisters. They're Device pilots and all that's left of Glomar's defensive squadron.

    Jabby
He comes from an alternate Earth where dragon-like creatures evolved instead of humans. His tail allows him to detect dimensional changes.

    Slay
Mimsy's fiancee and Glomar's second pilot. Jealous and distrustful, but protective.

    Goovu
The oldest onboard of Glomar, he is wise and experienced as a great trader.

    Leeg
Glomar's chief engineer. He created Orguss, basing it on Kei's older machine and naming it after a war god from Jabby's world.

    Papty
Young Emaan mother. Her husband died in one of Chiram attacks on Glomar.

    Momu
A humanoid robot Kei found in an Emaan market. She is a technician, not a combatant. Momu is very loyal to Kei, to almost distubing levels.

    Tai
Ancient Mu battle robot. He was repaired and reprogrammed to serve humans. Does not like non-combat robots like Momu.

    Henry
A Chiram lieutenant. Serious and loyal to his government.

    Big O characters
    Spoiler
    Show

    Roger Smith
The Negotiator, who offers his services to anyone who needs them. He lives by his own gentlemanly rules and hates guns, but is willing to wreak the bad guys in the Big O if everything else fails.

    R. Dorothy Wayneright
Roger's stoic and sarcastic assistant. She is an android (well, gynoid to be precise). Doesn't hold a very high opinion of him, but she helps him regardless.

    Norman Burg
Roger's butler and long time friend. Very resourceful, skilled and much less harmless than he looks like.

    Dan Dastun
Chief of Paradigm City's military police. Grumpy and hard-nosed, but loyal and devoted to his city. Doesn't like rogue Megadei wrecking up Paradigm.

    Angel
A mysterious and beautiful woman. She acts as an independent agent and her real motivations are unknown. Regardless, she often helps Roger.

    Schwartzwald
Real name: Michael Seebach. A reporter out to find the truth about Paradigm City's past, he discovered something he shouldn't have and is currently quite loony. In other words, stark raving mad. His face was disfigured in an "accident".

    Jason Beck
An annoying but (mostly) harmless minor criminal who was repeatedly beaten by Roger Smith in the past. Because of that, he developed an obsession of humiliating him - and so far, he fails.

    Alex Rosewater
Chairman of the Paradigm Group and de facto ruler of the whole city. He is hungry for both power and knowledge of the lost past, and has nothing but contempt for the poor of the city.

    Gordon Rosewater
Founder of Paradigm City and Alex's father. He is retired and spends his free time growing tomatoes. His senile remarks are only this and most definitely not foreshadowing.

    Big Ear
Roger's informer. He is an enigma, not much is known about him or his sources of information, but they are reliable.

    Davu and T-Bone
Beck's sidekicks. Not very competent, even as far as smallfry criminals are concerned.

    R. D.
Mysterious android (gynoid!) who looks just like Dorothy. She was killing people who got too close to recovering their lost memories, but Beck flattened her with his Beck Victory Deluxe.

Sanger has two homages, one if you don't count Wodan Ymir (who's just a copy of Sanger playing Sanger's original role).

Al-Van Ranks, Sword that Smites Earthlings.

In addition to the sword (which is actually common to all the Fury bosses), Al-Van is:

    1) A knight to Sanger's samurai
    2) The Dragon, in his first appearance until the very end of the game
    3) Easily confused for gay or a pedophile despite having a canon adult female love interest
    4) The one sympathetic bad guy in a faction full of freaking lunatics (haha, puns).

Anyway, as for Baran Doban's eventual role in the OG games, I can see GAN GAN LEON! GANLEON! being a Balmar mech, but I don't think they'll mess with Baran Doban or Rand's backstory too much, unless they decide to go whole hog with what they did in OG1 and make every single last Balmar character an abducted Earthling/whatever Ingram is.

I suppose this is better explained in the Alpha series than in OG1.

Well, in Alpha, Ingram's actual "commanding officer", and the rest of the Balmarian 7th Research Fleet, show up to kick your ass (although most of them get eaten by Space Monsters. Oops). Euzeth Judecca Gozzo goes through the trouble of monologuing his entire plot to you, so if you read a translation of that, it definitely helps.

Also, the R-Gun Rivale? That was Ingram trying to reconstruct his TARDIS. In Alpha he manages to succeed, thanks to having a component from a Balmarian battleship (a "Cross Gate Paradigm System"?), and breaks free from their control.
"Return to nothingness. Infinity Cylinder, FIRE!"

He couldn't pull it off in OG1 because the OG Balmarians were spying on the Alphaverse. They changed the conditions for breaking the control, and never gave him the CGP unit. Cue theories that System-XN could be used in its place.

Ingram's regeneration from the Alphaverse is trying to contact OG!Ingram and free him. This is shown in the OG1 anime and later in Original Generations.

The anime gets really trippy on this. Note that Gilliam is freaking out.

Okay people. I upped the video quality - it should look nicer now, without any artifacts. BUT on the other side, it's also much bigger. Let me know if anything downloads too slowly for you.
These missions are still short and sweet, so I was able to post most of the footage I've taken. It's also to familiarise ourselves with units, both ally and enemy. When everyone gets fed up with seeing the same robots over and over, I will probably make less videos with just generic attacks.
Except Gunleon. You can never have enough of Gunleon.
I've decided to put the pre-mission talk in a spoiler, for ease of reading. Tengu and Prime32: your ideas weren't met with other readers' support so I'm not implementing them yet. This may yet change, of course. I'm still experimenting with this LP's format so each update may look different.

    ==============

    Chapter 2: Day of Departure

We're heading off to the Siberian Domepolis, where some celebration is supposedly taking place.

But first, taking care of a part I found. A Booster should make Gunleon move around slightly faster. Rand will need it, being a close range fighter and all.

    Introduction:
    Spoiler
    Show

    At the Domepolis school...

Mr Mamadou: Alright everyone. Class is in session. Today, we're going to talk about the Innocents and why the Domepoli were created. Is everyone present?

Sara: Wake up people! So what if class starts at 5 AM! Today's a special day, remember?

Bello: Hey, we got a dead guy in here!
Sara: Idiot! He's not dead, just sleeping... wait a sec! Gainer?

    Gainer: Zzz... highscore... huh, what?
Sara: It really is Gainer! You spent the whole month closed in your room playing video games, but today you came to school? What's the occassion?
Gainer: Well, umm... how you put it...
Mamadou: Stop fighting guys. I just received news we have a special guest today. From the Siberian Railroad, a hot woman with a ridiculous hairstyle and a fanservicey outfit.

Adette: Hey! Is there someone named Gainer in here? Gainer Sanga?
    Gainer: That'd be me, why?
Adette: Come with me. Move it!
Bello: Wow, dragging him off like that? She doesn't waste any time, does she?
Mamadou: I have a bad feeling about this... but more importantly, are you prepared for tonight?
Sara: Yeah. The Panzers are ready. Hmm, what did that skank want Gainer for? Grumble, mumble...

About twelve hours later, Gainer indeed was in for an enjoyable time. In prison!
Gainer: No! You got the wrong guy, I didn't do anything!
Siberian Railroad lackey: Shut up! You're suspected of pro-Exodus sentiments and terrorism!
Gainer: Exodus? Why would a nerd like me... hey! There's a dead guy in here! And it's not me this time.
SR lackey: What? Hey you, get up! Or I'll poke ya with a sti... *punched*
Gain: Heh. Idiot guards, how cliche. Let's get out of here, kid. We got an Exodus to run.
Gainer: Wait... is it because of you that I'm in this cell? I'm not getting into any more trouble today!
Gain: Fair enough. Stay in here if you wish.

In case you ask, yes - Gainer got boxed because his name sounds similar to Gain's. Welcome to Tomino brand of storytelling. Back to our main heroes:

Garrod: Woah! The festival really is something.
Rand: You said it! I could even touch the giant holographic idol singer. Just her ankle, though.
Mail: Darling, never make that face ever again.

Kejinan: Daaaamn you Big Sis Adette... it's a festival but you won't let me drink! Emergency standby, my ass...

Enge: You tell me. Hey, wait a sec. Doesn't that guy look suspicious to you?
Kejinan: That beached whale? Wait... must be the Crasher! I get it now. He's here to cause the Exodus! Let's go get our Silhouette Machines! We catch him alive, we get a promotion!
Enge: Don't want to arrest him now?
Kejinan: Yeah, right. Like I want to get a spanner to the head.
Rand: Wonder what these guys are muttering about... woah, woah! The ground started shaking!
Mail: Darling, look! This building... it's moving away!
Garrod: It's not just a building, the whole town's gettin' split apart!

    Same time...
Gain: Hey, so you followed me after all! Here, hold this coat and cover me.
Gainer: The name is Gainer, not "you". Why do you want me to hold this?
Gain: I have no time to pick this lock so I'll just shoot it out. Bang! Okay, let's get in.

Gainer: So dark... woah! It's an Overman! A real Overman!
Gain: Yeah. The lord of this Domepolis is a real antique nut. Now, get in.
    Gainer: Me? Why?
Gain: Come on! Every kid your age wants to pilot a giant robot, right? Pack your ass in, we don't have the time!
Gainer: Urff! Hmm, it still works? Login input... name... I'll just use my gaming handle:

    KING GAINER!

Lioubov: Princess! Did you feel that? The whole mansion is shaking!

Ana: Don't worry Lioubov, it must be the celebration! I always wanted to see it up close... Aah, I wish someone would just come and take me away from here!

    Weird squirrel things: !!!

Ana: Linns, Lise, Link? What's the matter?
Gain: Passing through! Oh, and sorry about the robot hole in the floor.
Lioubov: Aah! Who are you? What are you here for?!
Gain: Name's Gain Bijou. I came here to take the princess hostage.
    Lioubov: What?!
Ana: Yay! That sounds like fun, let's go!
Lioubov: No, you can't do that! Wait!
Gain: Okay, let her into the cockpit Gainer. Hmm? What's your name, miss?
    Lioubov: My name? Lioubov... Smettana...
Gain: Lioubov? That's a nice name. Now then, see you later! We'll take good care of the princess, worry not!

    Tomino storytelling at its finest!

    Mission Start!
Rand: Look at that! Whole living blocks are pulled by giant Silhouette Machines!
Garrod: It's like if the Domepolis was trying to run away! This must be that Exodus thing.
Mail: Uhh, Darling. I don't want to distract you but some robots are coming this way.
Enge: Yeah! With our Dogozzos, he won't stand a chance! Even if he's got a machine of his own, we got superior numbers.
Kejinan: Promotion, promotion, here I come!

Yassaba: What the hell is going on there!

Jaboli: Sir! Exodus sympathisers are attacking all over the Domepolis! Siberian Railroad forces are getting scattered!
Yassaba: Damn, where is my Rush Rod?!
Jaboli: Won't be ready until the next episode!

So yeah. Our enemy for this mission is the Siberian Railroad - half government, half corporation which maintains a monopoly on supplying various Domepoli, and because of that they think they can dictate policies and overall boss around. As far as Tomino bad guys go, they are pretty non-threatening... but not non-threatening enough not to try to kick Rand's ass!

Rand: Okay, here I go! Oops, overdid it!
SR lackey: Nooo, the repair costs are going from my pocket!

The Dogozzo, and Silhouette Engines in general, are pretty pathetic. I can't decide whether they or Walker Machines are the easiest enemy in the game. Not much we can do on this turn other than rush forward, and the enemies can't do much other than attack, with predictable results.

Kejinan: Giant robots are easy to kill, just aim for the legs!
Rand: You're riding a giant robot too, you know!
    Kejinan: Argh! My precious logic!

    On the next turn...

Rand: Woah, this thing is flying, just like a Gundam!
Gainer: Hold steady, King Gainer! I'm not a gaming champ to let you crash now!
Adette: Allow me to help with that by kicking your ass, boy!
Gain: Tch, tch. No-one gets his ass kicked in MY Exodus!
Sara: Yeah, and we're here to help too! Wait, Gainer is in that flying thing with hair?
Bello: He switched from video games to the real thing!

Gauli: No chatter on the airwaves! Gotchko, King Gainer - you have Gauli Squad's support!

New allies arrived, but let's see what are they made of. King Gainer is... well, actually it is pretty weak for a main unit of its own series. In a Mega Man-like fashion, this unit gets stronger as plot progresses and it unlocks more attacks. And by stronger, I mean it moves from "crap" to "god" tier. For now, at least it has the Photon Mat for protection...
Gotchko is pretty much a glorified sniping platform for Gain - and that's all he needs. The Panzers, on the other hand... yeah, they're terrible. Their only saving grace is the ability to repair, and that's because every Panzer pilot soon becomes an expert mechanic. Because they have to fix their wreck so often.

Also, the Skill Point condition reveals itself: defeat Adette, who runs away at 3000 HP.

Gainer: I hate the Exodus, but at the moment I hate you guys more! Here I go!
SR lackey: What, this thing is pilotted by a kid? Argh, should've played more video games when I was younger!
Gain: I'll handle their leader! Gauli Squad, use your BB grenades!
Sara: Good we have these things! Imagine what would happen if we had to wait a few months until they're ready!

BBs reduce enemy dodging if they connect - they're also the strongest Panzer weapon, and the only non-pathetic one. And in case you ask: no, there are no artifacts in Gauli's cut-in. He leaves blurs behind because he's a ninja.
    ...
    On second thought, don't ask.

Rand decides to aim for one of the named enemies. Enge, right?
Oops, wrong target. That's what you get for attacking without scanning first!
Enge: Phew, sure am glad I wasn't in that machine.
Garrod: Don't forget about me! Stand still, okay?
    Enge: Gaaah!

The enemy phase starts. Attacking Rand leads only to your unit getting trashed, so they opt for a change of plans.
SR lackey: A panzer? Take that!
Bello: Luckily, my awesome hair will protect me! Take this, a hilariously weak counterattack that missed anyway!
Enge: Just because I have an eyepatch doesn't mean I can't aim! Wow, that actually hit! Damn, I'm good!
Kejinan: Don't get ahead! I'll attack the big orange thing... daaamn you!
Rand: Heh, good thing I used Strike.

You may notice that Gain didn't counterattack. I want the Skill Point, and his gun would bring Adette below the runaway threshold. So he defended instead.

Speaking of the Skill Point, let's start with Gauli reducing the Dogozzo's HP with his weakest attack.
Adette: Urgh! Hey, wait a sec. That was only light bop, don't tell me you fell in love with me or something!
Gauli: Hah, like if such a thing would ever happen!
    FORESHADOWING!

I was afraid remaining mooks run away when we down Adette, so the next course of action is getting rid of them. But that's not without its problems.
Bello: Who'd expect a single BB to be not enough to down a Silhouette Machine!
Rand: Take a spanner to the face! Wait, where'd it go?
Garrod: I got your back Rand! Eat beam sword!
Enge: I want a compensation for work in hard conditions!

With that out of the way (one mook Dogozzo remains, but I'll live), let's take care of Big Sis herself. Using our best friend, Offensive Support courtesy of Gain.
Adette: Crap! Beaten by a kid! And a Silhouette Machine's oversized arm!
Gain: Hey, that one guy didn't run away yet. Let's change his mind...
SR lackey: Should've stayed in bed this morning!

Yassaba: You people... are a failure! Not only did the whole friggin' city leave on an Exodus, they took lord Medaiyu's daughter as a hostage!
Kejinan: But, they had a huge wrench-wielding robot...
    Yassaba: No excuses! How weak!
Adette: Oh? Having fun shouting at these guys? The whole building is trembling because of your strong voice.
Yassaba: Adette! I'm getting fired up now! Your underlings are getting the taste of my voice, but the Exodus will get the taste of Rush Rod's flames!
    Adette: That's my Yassaba!

On the Mammoth, largest of units that haul a whole Domepolis around...
Bello: Okay! All living units are lined up and moving smoothly. Slow and steady!

The Five Wise Men: Thank you for your help, Black Southern Cross. It was a smart decision to hire your assistance. We are sure to reach the legendary land of Yapan.

Gain: People should live how they want. I just hate how Siberian Railroad forces itself on you.
Sara: That sounded dirty... but more importantly, what about those people in weird machines? Are they with you?
Gain: Ah, them. I told them about the festival, and it seems they decided to hang around for a while anyway.

Garrod: Hey! Any chance for a festival hot-dog? Boy, I sure am starvin'!

No food for you Garrod. Instead, have an intermission screen. Garrod is still the ace, but Rand is close behind. As for the new guys, King Gainer joined the roster, as well as... twitch, twitch... the Panzers.

Next chapter: The Exodus continues! Old friends make a re-appearance! Will Garrod ever get something to eat? (No)

    ==============

    Chapter 2: Angry Eyes

The intermission reveals the Glory Stars are still alive, but on the other hand - no neat items to equip. Just a single repair kit and an energy tank: both allow you to repair or recharge a unit fully, but they are one use only and then disappear. So we are saving them for when we really need them. Read: never equipping for the duration of the game.

    Introduction:
    Spoiler

ZAFT space colony of Armory One.

Durandal: Ah, princess Cagalli Yula Attha of Orb. So glad you could make it here safely. Was the trip pleasant for you?

Cagalli: Cut the smalltalk, Durandal. We both know why I'm here - you want to talk about a possible alliance between ZAFT and Orb, right?
Durandal: No need to be so aggressive. But indeed, that's the reason. I hope the second stage Gundams that will be presented later today will prove to you, ZAFT would make a powerful ally. Also, glad to see you back home, Athrun.

Athrun Alex: I don't know who you're talking about. I'm just a bodyguard. I really should've brought sunglasses for this job....

Different part of the colony, some weird people were skipping around merrily:

Auel: We're off to steal the Gundams...

Stella: The prototype Gundams of ZAFT!

Sting: Hey you two, pipe down! You'll blow our already transparent cover!
Stella: No, I want to sing and dance! Wheeee!

    *thump*

Shinn: Oof! Hey, watch where you're going... wait, she fell! You alright?
Stella: Umm... I'm still free, you can't take the Gundams from me!
Shinn: Huh? She runs away? What was that now... Weird girl...

Yoland: Hey, Shinn, so that's where you are!
Vino: You're supposed to get into Impulse, remember? The Gundam presentation will start soon!
Shinn: Yeah, coming guys... huh? What was that sound?

    Mission Start!

    Setsuko: Uuuuh...
    Denzel: Hey! You two alright?
    Toby: I'll live... somehow.
    Setsuko: Wait... where are we?
Denzel: My computer says Lagrande Point 4... ZAFT territory? Not good!

Lunamaria: Huh? What the heck just happened? Are we under attack?

Rey: Possibly. But for now, we should remain cautious and observe. Our units are not accessible anyway.

ZAFT soldier: Unknown robots, what are you doing here? Identify yourself or we will open fire!
Denzel: Wait a sec, we just got here by accident! We mean no harm!
Sting: Perfect distraction. Let's grab the Gundams!
Auel: Okay! Let's kill the Coordinator scum!
    *Stuff blows up en masse*
ZAFT soldier: I knew it! It's sabotage! Die, terrorists!
    Setsuko: T... terrorists, us?!

The Skill Point here is: destroy all initial enemies in 2 turns. This is nigh impossible, unless you remember that turn #3 doesn't start until all enemies move as well...

Denzel: Stay close together! Fire at hostiles that get too close!
Toby: Not good... for dodgy robots, Balgoras sure do get hit a lot!

ZAFT's mobile suits are slightly more dangerous than AEUG's - GuAIZ R are nothing special, but the ZAKU Warrior is more troublesome. Let's aim the guns on that one.
Denzel: Star 1 attacks, Star 3 supports! You know the drill... crap! How could both attacks miss!
ZAFT soldier: Terrorists won't beat the elite of Coordinator troops!
Setsuko: We're not terrorists! Why don't you listen! Focus... take that!
ZAFT soldier: Gaaah! I'm outta here!
Cagalli: Watch out! Athrun, you okay? That mobile suit almost squashed you!
Athrun Alex: I'm too quick for something like that to kill me, don't worry. Wait... this ZAKU is still mostly intact. I think I can make it move...

On the enemy turn, remaining units attack. Thus they spell their doom and me getting a Skill Point. But then...

Auel: They're all dead. Heh, that was easy!
Sting: Okay, everyone get a Gundam. Remember to pick one most suited to your abilities and speciali...
    Stella: PUPPY!
Sting: ... I'll just take the long-ranged one. Let's move out.
Toby: Woah, some new units popped out! Do we have to fight them all?
Stella: Yay, ZAFT got me a mobile suit! And now everything here can DIE!
Setsuko: That black one... it's destroying the colony! What do we do?
Athrun Alex: Got the ZAKU to move. Let's get the hell out of here!
Cagalli: Wait, do you see that? A classical Gundamjack in action! We can't let them get away with that!

On board the ZAFT battleship Minerva...

Meyrin: Unknown saboteurs confirmed! They have hijacked our Gundams!

Arthur: Our security is wiped out, the ZAFT Red units are still under maintenance, and Minerva cannot fight in the colony! What do we do? Why am I panicking again?!

Talia: Calm down, XO. It's the Alliance, because they always do things like this. We cannot let them get their hands on the prototypes. In worst case, we will blast a hole in the colony and take them to the grave with us.
Durandal: That won't be necessary. Don't you have a Gundam that you can still use? Let's launch it now. It's presentation time after all, and I'd say this counts as a combat presentation.
Talia: ... You are right as always. Prepare to launch the Impulse!
Arthur: I'll set up the theme song!

Auel: Hey, look, a ZAKU! How cute... now die!
Athrun Alex: Time to rip the laws of physics a new one.
    Auel: Woah, stop doing that!
Sting: Grabbing always works, like this!

    Suddenly...

Shinn: YAAAH! You want a piece of me? Take this! And now, combine! Why are you people doing this? You want to cause another war!?
Sting: Close communications with the enemy. Recognition only leads to trouble. And I have a feeling this guy's even more insane than you two.
Setsuko: They're multiplying! Who do we fight now? Or do we run?
Denzel: Huh... we have two options now...

    The options:
    1. Help the Gundam Jackers and run away from the colony.
    2. Stop any further damage by helping ZAFT.
Now, when I played this game for the first time, I knew nothing about SEED Destiny. Or SEED and almost any other included series, for that matter. So I was totally stumped here. My train of thought went something like this:
"The ZAFT are the bad guys from SEED, right? I know that much."
"So, people who fight against ZAFT must be the good guys."
    "Let's help the Gundam Jackers."

Yeah. Let's not do that again.

    Ring ring!
    Shinn: Huh? What's that?
Denzel: My name's Denzel Hammer from the Glory Star squadron. We want to call a temporary truce. We'll help you deal with the saboteurs.
Shinn: Okay, but... Hammer? Aren't you that rapper?
    Denzel: No.

But don't forget one thing: a lot of time has passed and everyone talked out to their hearts' content, but it is still the enemy turn! Which means the jackers move now.
Athrun Alex: This is no Zaku boy, no Zaku! Oh wait... it is.
Shinn: Woah! Chainguns are ineffective - they got VPS!
Stella: Who pilots that Gundam? Can't possibly be anyone I met before, so die!

Denzel: Listen up! The enemy uses Variable Phase Shift Armor. That means non-beam weapons are mostly ineffective. Use beams!
Toby: Phew! I'm so glad my finisher is beam-based.
Denzel: Likewise with Balgora 1. What about you, Setsuko?
Setsuko: ... I'll just cry in a corner for a while.

Let's get rid of the bad guys, focusing on one at a time. Auel and his Abyss Gundam are first on the alphabetical order list. Denzel goes first, so that others may benefit from his commander aura.

Crap. That wasn't good at all. Let's get to know our enemy a bit better. Surprisingly to no one, the Gundams are tough nuts to crack. But we got means to dispose of them, yes we do. Seishin are what turns the table in this game. I also notice Shinn is able to use Impulse's final attack (so did Setsuko, but we won't be seeing it here because: 1. Not beam-based, and 2. She's out of range). So let's go with that.

    And then some more.

Auel: Argh! I lost to a... Coordinator!
Toby: Well, I'd say that attack was pretty well... coordinated.
    Stella: Auel!
Sting: That's it, we're outta here. Time for plan B!
Suddenly, explosions. Seeing a pattern in Setsuko's route yet?
    Shinn: Woah! What's going on!
Talia: The colony's under attack by an unknown battleship! The whole thing will be torn to shreds soon, dock at Minerva immediately!
    Setsuko: Umm, what about us?
Shinn: Woah, there's a girl inside this suit? Captain, we can't let them die here!
Durandal: I agree. Come onboard. Let's get to know each other a bit better.
Toby: You sure you want to leave your machine with these guys around, Setsuko?

And finally, the intermission! We got a Booster just like in Rand's route - it'll be useful very soon. There are also new units and people that joined in. I thought clicking on them would be a spoiler, but then I remembered we saw Luna and Rey already. Oh well. At least I have a new idea on how to present units we never saw before.

Next chapter: We're still in Samefaceville! But this time, Chars abound!

Giant holographic idol singers? This is all going to end in tears, mindrape, actual rape and worst of all...Ghosts. *hides and shudders in a corner*

Also Domepolis is a word so ridiculous that you'd think it was invented by the greater spotted trollbird to find something to put in the newspaper. I wonder how many seconds it took Tomino to come up with it. Three? Four?

Finally, i don't know what the most pathetic bunch of enemies are. I mean midifos are the weakest single kind of enemies, but the monsters of the week from that show aren't that pathetic. I know what the strongest kind is. It's the fail!oni who can't hold a drink. They channel their rage over the bullying the other oni gave them for this into becoming complete killing machines...and impersonating Hitler because their evil would be too subtle otherwise.

I know absolutly nothing about the series and character this game is based on but i've gotta ask what is so bad about helping them ?

And they (well, Stella at least) start rampaging around the colony for the evulz. Plus, they're annoying. Really annoying. Even by SEED Destiny standards.

You know what's not annoying in SEED Destiny, though? The soundtrack. Ignited is an awesome theme. Spanner-chucks level of awesome.

What they said. Also, allying with ZAFT gives a hidden advantage. More on that later.

    (okay, now I'm intrigued.)

I am also following the other SRW let's play on this forum, and i feel like asking, is there a way (legal preferably) to play those games if you only have a Pc and don't speak a word of japaneese ?

Buy the game and play it on an emulator? OG1 and OG2 had official English releases, Alpha Gaiden had an unofficial translation patch and the fan translation of J is almost done. You don't really need to speak Japanese though, as long as you have a good guide that will let you figure out what option does what.

Tengu covered the legality/emulation part pretty well, so I'll focus on the translation part:
As long as you know what you are doing, thanks to online guides on gamefaqs or Akurasu, you shouldn't have trouble with playing the game in Japanese, even if you do not understand a word of the language. You'll miss out on plot and dialogue, but the games are awesome enough even just from gameplay.
Or you can play Original Generation 1 and 2 for the GBA. They were translated to English.
Jew Wario made an excellent video for people who want to play SRW a year ago. It's worth checking out!

    Cubey, another question!

Do characters progress a la SRW A Portable (where you get the enhancements such as Counter or Hit & Away as items) or as SRW Original Generations (based on Pilot Points)?

Also, any news on whether they have SP Regen, or just plain SP Up? SRW A is pretty tough on the SP, though they give Mars Bowls like nobody's business (and if Akito, from the Nadesico, has his Ace bonus, the party gets a Mars Bowl per successful mission, which helps a LOT).

Darn, I should go forward. I have to get my sui...I mean, the Londo Bell to the inevitable confrontation with DON ZAUSER. I've heard horror stories about DON ZAUSER, including that he's the spawn of Cthulhu or something.

Oh well, all to save Shiratori the Gekiganger maniac...

There are Pilot Points in this game. Your pilots do not get them for kills only, but there's an extra 25 PP to all fielded folks for every Skill Point. Everything costs roughly 5 times as much as in OGs, so it's like if people got 5 PPs per battle.

As for buyable skills themselves, the most powergaming mainstays are gone. There is no SP Regen (okay, some people have this but you can't buy it), Attacker, Revenge... but there are other useful skills in their place. I'll show them off when I get people who use them. Also, you can bump up terrain proficiencies, but it's of a more limited use than usual because for a unit to have a rating of S, both the pilot and the machine must have an S rating.

    Ouch.

Well...at least it ain't like SRW A Portable. You get Stat+5 sparingly, even rarer Stat+10, and much later Stat+15; the only few remaining stuff is Infight, Gunfight, Hit & Away, Offensive Support, Defensive Support and the non-working Counter. There's also Sword Cut (destroy projectiles with your sword!) and Shield Defense (which honestly, I have no idea what it does but it doesn't seem to reduce my defense in any way). Mostly, you increase your damage potential through direct stats.

Which reminds me: apparently stats work as a percentage boost. So having 161 Melee is actually a 61% increase in your base attack, then counting the other factors (Morale, Infight/Gunfight, then Seishin/Spirit Commands). It's hard to deal with it when you have Attacker, Revenge, Guard and such (which are flat 50% boosts at Will/Morale 130 usually), but crucial when you have no such boosts and the only other way to deal with damage/accuracy increases is through Infight/Gunfight.

Also: I've seen Rand getting pathetic amounts of damage, so I presume the "Super Robot armor is made of aluminum" problem is fixed, right? Right?

Sword Cut and Shield Block are one skill in SRW Z - just Blocking. Garrod used it a few times, not that it mattered because he had Invincible on. That's right kid, use that expensive, volatile beam cannon to block enemy shots.

Other fun abilities are Focused Shot (reduces damage penalty for ALL attacks when attacking a group of enemies), Ignore Size Modifier (obvious - and in this game, size modifiers actually matter), Move and Away (also obvious, attack and then move), Limit Break (morale goes up to 170 rather than 150) and my personal favorite: Attack Again. If your pilot has an advantage of 20 or more in their Skill attribute over the target, they can Offensive Support themselves. Very nice for all the ace pilots with naturally high Skill, and for Gainer whose Gamer ability gives him +10 Skill at 130+ morale.

According to Overman King Gainer, playing video games makes you an awesome mecha pilot. I am flattered.

As for damage Gunleon received - that was pathetic? Wait until I get Big O! But yes, in this game the thick armor on Supers actually matters. But from my SRW experiences, that's the norm rather than an exception* - it's those weird titles like A, OG2 or Alpha series where your Supers can't tank. And D, but that's just bugged so it doesn't count. In Z, MX, K or (to a lesser extent) W, your Supers can tank mooks and mini-bosses with little difficulty. They can't really tank bosses without spirit skills, but neither can Reals dodge them so it evens out.

*Didn't play all titles, so I could be wrong.

Hmm, less retarded. I'd still say that Offensive and Defensive Support should be collapsed (a la OG1), but there is a good reason to keep them separate. However, Blocking as an ability makes a lot of sense.

Wait, what!? Maneuver is actually useful in here? I...actually never realized what was the point of Maneuver, except of course making Mercy work, but then again only a few missions actually require you to use Mercy, since the whole point is taking them down (OG2 had missions where you had to reduce enemy HP to near nil, but weak attacks do the same).

Limit Break is basically half the benefit of Domon's usual Ace bonus, made into a skill. Ignore Size Modifier and Focused Shot are suited to the game, in comparison to, say, Mercy (again; I hate that SC because it's pointless).

Yet, I am surprised by Attack Again. After all, one of the key targets is spamming Zeal/Enable over and over to get as many hits on the target while taking advantage of Strike (which lasts for the entire turn in most of the games) and Focus, though if you're depending on SC your SP drains real quick (Valor/Soul + Strike + Alert/Guard). But a technically free Offensive Support with yourself!? That's...not only bizarre, it also blends real well with the pilot ability to deal full damage on Offensive Support (Combo Attack, IIRC).

According to Overman King Gainer, playing video games makes you an awesome mecha pilot. I am flattered.
Cubey, didn't Ryusei proved that already? Also, it proves that people with hot-blooded spirit and proper grammar beat powergamers with "leet skillz". Then again, planes have been saved, and wars have been fought thanks to gaming skills. Eventually, wars will be LED by people playing Age of Empires in their youth, or Starcraft, or something along those lines.

Actually, IIRC OG2 has a rather decent armor system, but then again it also had Guard which was a 50% armor boost. SRW A is terrible in that the quintessential tank (Mazinger Z) can only withstand a few hits, and Getter Team gets downed more than usual; however, they are the few ones that deal massive amounts of damage (Daitarn being the first and foremost, followed by Mazinger and Getter using combination attacks such as Double Breast Fire, Double Getter Beam and the allmighty Stoner Sunshine Spark). Heck, that's one of the reasons why the Soulgain has troubles compared to the high-armor, Bunshin-enabled Angelg or the high-evasion, Bunshin-enabled and Sword Cut enabled Vysaga, although the Soulgain is saved because of its inherent 10% HP regen and Full Upgrade Bonus...

That reminds me: they have semi-disposed of Ace Bonus; have they disposed of Full Upgrade Bonuses as well?

Oh, and yeah: I've heard of SRW D and "paper armor". But seeing the Gunleon with 6,400 HP take damage roughly equal to 426 without Defend compared to the Mazinger that has about 4,500 HP and takes about 1/4th of the hits with armor upgraded by 3-4 slots...yes, I think that's pathetic.

As for Big O: remember that it can't fly, unless you give it a Flight Module.

And that's what I intend to do. What is more terrifying than an unstoppable black robot slowly but surely walking in your direction?

An unstoppable black robot slowly but surely flying in your direction.

Also, SRW Z disposed of most seishin cheese. Zeal still exists, but there's no Enable or Faith (SP regen on other people). So you can't do the fabled zealspam anymore.

Maneuver was always useful - it affects crit rate. Parry/shield block rates are dependant on Maneuver/Skill as well.
Likewise, Mercy has its uses. It helped me when I needed to almost kill a boss - not because of the victory condition (that's rare, but when it happens mercy is your friend too), but to let someone else score the kill and reap the benefits instead.

Combo Attack is kinda expensive for how limited of use it is. I could probably buy it for some pilots, but there's just so much stuff that I find more useful. PPs don't grow on trees, especially in this game. Oh, and in this game it gives a guaranteed critical rather than full damage on a support. That's slightly less useful.

Full Upgrade Bonuses are still in the game. They are not unit-specific, you just pick one out of a list. I found it stuff for a New Game+ though. Like PPs, cash is limited here - if you focus on one unit, others will suffer. At least you don't have to upgrade supporting squad members that much (or at all), just the squad leader material...
