I feel I must speak up, for the first time since I started lurking this thread (a couple weeks ago). I didn't have much to say about how the units should be distributed, largely because I'm not familiar enough with the mechanics of the game to be sure that I wouldn't be crippling your chances horribly.

While I prefer Gunleon to the Balgora, I have a preference for Setsuko's supporting cast over Rand's, and the whole supporting cast > the main character. (In both cases, the one I don't like as much does have its moments, but that is still my conclusion.) Plus, I don't like Aquarion very much. Thus, my vote is for Setsuko's route.

Believe it or not, lefina was in the big three of the favourite srw og character poll at some point at some site back then (the winner was latooni)

And what's my favorite thing about Lefina? That one incident when Neue DC (and Murata) attacked while she was taking her rest. So she had to wake up to commandeer the ship. Not only was Lefina half-asleep and in a nightgown, she brought her pet plush lion. Which was sitting on her head during attack cut-ins. Like if it was the one in charge.

But before anything not safe for work can happen, the action moves to Glomar's bridge.




Shaya: Oh, another teleportation incoming? They happen so often these days, don't they... wait! This pattern! Could it be... the Singularity?

Kei: That was a rough landing... well, I'm still alive! I won't be killed that easily. Now, where am I?
Mimsy: Shaya, look! We found him. What an outdated gerwalk... is it Chiram?


Leeg: No, it looks much older than that.


Goovu: At any rate, we finally found the Singularity. We should hide him before the Chiram arrive. I trust they will be here any moment.
Shaya: That's true. Mimsy, could you call him?
Mimsy: The Singularity, can you hear me? Do not be alarmed. We of the Emaan want to offer you shelter.
Kei: Woah! What a cute girl! I mean... hello. My name's Kei. I won't say no to an invitation if it's given by a nice lady like you.
Slay: Urgh. Hitting on my fiancee already? Is that really the Singularity?


Chiram soldier: Singularity found! Hand him over, merchants! Singularity - you're coming with us!

Shaya: Oh no, the Chiram military is here! We are not giving anyone for free. The Emaan are a nation of merchants, in case you forgot. We require payment.
Chiram soldier: We'll pay you... with bullets!
Kei: Hey, that's not how you treat a lady! I'll have to show you a thing or two. Now, to the Emaan... Offer accepted, I'll be your guest from now on. Nice lady, what is your name?
Mimsy: Mimsy. Thank you, Sing... no, I mean Kei! We already suffered from Chiram attacks in the past, don't underestimate them!
Shaya: Maie, Lea, please provide backup for him!


Maie: Leave it to me!


Lea: Okay. Singularity, I got your back!
Chiram soldier: Make sure the Singularity survives, but kill everyone else!

Don't be fooled by their amusing, blocky design. Chiram units are strong and surprisingly hard to hit. Luckily, Kei didn't get any worse from before, and still kicks ass despite his meager Bronco II unit. The sisters' Morabbas are nothing special, but they and the Glomar will have to do the job. I have only 3 turns to eliminate all opponents, if I want the Skill Point that is.

Kei: These are some weird machines... I don't recall seeing a design like that. Oh well, they'll go down if I pack them full of missiles just like everything else.
Chiram soldier: Singularity's Device is attacking me! Argh!

Chiram soldier: Attacking him is suicide for now. Focus on taking down the Emaan escort!
Maie: I can still fight, you know.
Lea: We refuse to keel down and die just like that!

Kei: That's the spirit. Sorry guys, but it's my turn now! Into the breach!
Mimsy: The Glomar will fight too, if we have to!

Although it's technically a battleship, Glomar is only a civilian, merchant unit. Its weapons are not too good and its armor and HP are pathetically thin. It has its uses too, however: the ability to repair itself and others.

Maie: The Chiram are attacking me again? But they won't hit!
Kei: That one looks biggest and toughest. Is it their squad leader? I'll just aim for it then.
Shaya: We'll go first. We can't let any harm come to the Singularity!
Chiram soldier: Singularity... too much hax!

Kei: Great job saving my hide, ladies. I really appreciate the gesture.
Shaya: Everyone, Kei's unit will be coming aboard now.
Mimsy: Shaya, what's that?


Kei: Crows? What the heck? Is this normal for you?
Mimsy: First time I see anything like that!

Suddenly, reinforcements arrive to help! Most unexpected reinforcements...


Neo: Emaan traders, do not be afraid! We've been dispatched to help you. These crows are our enemies too.
Shaya: Thank you. But, what are these?
Neo: Honestly, I have no idea. Must be something from a different world I'm not aware of. Let us take care of these now!
Auel: Urgh. I hate fighting things like that. Not enough screaming and bleeding.
Sting: Yeah, but it's still our mission. At least we're not under those stuck-up Titans this time.
Stella: Neo, wait for meee! I want to kill them too!

The Gundamjackers are on our side for now! Who saw that coming?

The mysterious crows are not a very tough opponent. I could probably handle them without reinforcements, especially since I already got the Skill Point for destroying Chiram so there's no need to worry about time anymore.

Lea: They're going straight for me! Sorry, you won't be hitting anything! Oww... why?!
Meia: Lea, are you alright?!
Lea: Somehow... Okay, time to go down!

Kei: Hmm, these people are nice but they act kinda strange... where am I? A different universe? This is not science fiction... Huh, what's that?

Exposition time is go!

Six months ago, the barriers between alternate universes came apart and many worlds became one. This resulted in great chaos, struggles, aliens and weird creatures, yadda yadda... eventually, a government (New Earth Federation) was created, or rather merged from several of the worlds' governments. It allied itself with the Chiram people and controls most of the planet now. A natural-occuring barrier makes it impossible to enter or leave atmosphere on most of the globe, but there are exceptions. Meanwhile, ZAFT remains independent, but is blamed for the Junius Seven incident, when fragments of the colony dropped on Earth and caused destruction. Since many people blame this as the cause of the worlds fusing, no surprise that the Federation is hostile to ZAFT now.

Oh, and a centralized information network has been established to keep everyone up to date with news, since every day is a struggle and brings changes now and all. It's known as the Internet UN. No correlation with United Nations.

Kei: That's a hell of a story. By the way Mimsy, do you know anything about a Space Elevator falling down on anyone's heads?
Mimsy: Space Elevator?
Kei: Phew...

Intermission! We have only the Orguss people available, but not for long because the next chapter takes place somewhere completely different. And since the next time we meet Kei, he'll have a different, better (read: more expensive to upgrade) unit, I won't let an opportunity slide:

Sorry. I do adore GUN-GUN-LEON, GUNLEON, but I cannot deny the utter, cheesy awesomeness that is Grendizer, I infinitely prefer Gravion to Aquarion, and the Gundam series are also pretty sweet (particularly the old-school units). And yes, the promise of Big O doesn't hurt either. The only part of Rand's group that I enjoy as much are the Xabungle units.

Fortunately, Kei is neither a lolicon (as you'll see later) nor an ephebophile. He likes girls, but will not put any moves on underage ones. Anyone above 18 is free game though.

And honestly, I think it's to give the Orguss world a quasi-medieval feel. We have a super-militarized, controlled nation, but the wandering traders are no more free, they're still bound by harsh tradition.

Can someone explain exactly what the "Special Disc" is? I believe it contains a Banpresto Original King Gainer unit?

It's a disc with special materials: an attack viewer like in OG Gaiden, official art collection, etc. But also, side missions! Some of them appear before or during the main storyline, just elsewhere, others are shortly after. It's not a standalone, because the content unlocks depending on your save states and progress in the actual game.

It includes Overman XAN, which is a boss in one of the extra chapters and is supposedly super-hardcore. As fitting of something which has the power of an Overman AND the Turn X, maybe more.

I don't have that disc so we won't be seeing it in the LP though.

By the way, I wanted to voice my appreciation for actually showing the attacks of minor and Mook enemy units. Most other vids tend to skip them, and you don't get a chance to see them in action.

Do you mean most other videos as in other LPs/"all attacks" on youtube, or other videos of my Let's Play? I try to showoff all units and their attacks, not just the squad leader ones, for precisely that reason: because youtube doesn't. And that's a waste. Even the weak units still have nice attack animations.

Norman: Indeed. After all, this is Paradigm City, the city of lost memories. But don't worry - you are safe here, miss. The master of this house ordered that any ladies, especially those in distress, are allowed to stay here unconditionally and receive all help they need.
Dorothy: Yes. He decided that, not concerned on how much trouble it may bring on Norman's head.
Setsuko: Oh... how long was I out for? I could really use a parfait right now... or four.


Norman: What appetite! Anyway - everyone in this city lost their memories 40 years ago. But, life has to go on one way or another... if your old identity is lost, I think you should try to craft a new one in Paradigm.
Setsuko: But... I can't do that! For some reason, I have a feeling what I was doing before is very important. I need my memories back!
Norman: I see. In that case, the master may be able to help. Unfortunately, he disappeared several days ago, during his investigation concerning a difficult negotiation.
Setsuko: Negotiation?
Norman: Yes, he is a Negotiator after all. The best of his kind, if I may say so. You probably heard his name before, but it is gone with the rest of your memories... Roger Smith.
Dorothy: With our guest awake, I should go out and look for that louse now.
Norman: I will stay and keep the house safe. Miss Setsuko, would you make us a favor and accompany Dorothy in her investigation? The city is dangerous for a lone girl like her. That way, you may even find something that will stir your memory.
Setsuko: The city is dangerous? But I'm not a bodyguard... will two women be able to...
Dorothy: Do not worry. We will be fine.

And so, the search for Roger starts!


Setsuko: What is this?
Dorothy: This is the dome of the Paradigm Group. The rich of Paradigm live in domes, away from smog and poverty, and this is the largest of them.
Setsuko: Oh. So, where do we go first, Chief?
Dorothy: Chief?
Setsuko: I... am used to calling people that, for some reason. It just fits somehow.
Dorothy: Chief... so be it then.


Davu: Hey, T-Bone. Is that who I think it is?


T-Bone: Yeah! It's the maid or something of that black crow guy. I don't recognize the other girl... but boss will be happy. Let's get them!


T-Bone: You'll be coming with us! Don't worry, we're not gonna hurt you, ladies.

Dorothy: Dead? I wouldn't count on it. He is too resilient to be killed easily. Like a cockroach.
Angel: Well said! I'd start your search at the Speakeasy bar. One of Roger's informers can be found over there, most of the time.
Setsuko: That's very helpful! Thank you, Angel.
Angel: Don't mention it. You're not the only one who wants to find Roger, Setsuko Ohara. I must go now. Excuse me.

Big Ear: No... I didn't talk to Roger Smith for a while. He is as lost to me as it is to you.
Setsuko: Then, we came all the way here for nothing?
Dorothy: Except for your strawberry milkshake, you mean.
Big Ear: There is a name Roger was investigating earlier... Michael Seebach. A reporter. He was obsessed with finding "the Truth". He suffered from a terrible accident and later disappeared altogether. It cannot be a coincidence that Roger went missing while investigating him.
Setsuko: So, where we will find Seebach, we will find Roger?
Big Ear: Most likely.
Dorothy: We have company.


Dastun: Dorothy Wayneright... and a newcomer lady, in here? You must have been talking with Smith's informer.
Setsuko: Umm, yes. Does everyone know Roger in this city?
Dastun: Sometimes I wish I didn't! He should've never left the force. The city's in an uproar, prisoners in the precinct jail are restless... and the one time we could actually use his skills, he's gone off the face of the Earth! Talk about professional responsibility.
Dorothy: Officer Dastun, where was Roger Smith the last time you saw him?
Dastun: So determined to find him? If he's really that worth it, I can help you... Gordon Rosewater. He was heading to old Gordon's private dome.
Dorothy: Rosewater...
Setsuko: Is that someone important?
Dastun: You really are a newcomer, miss. Rosewater created the whole city! And his son, Alex Rosewater, is its king and master now. If you intend to stay here, you should remember these names... and people rarely leave Paradigm. Those who are born in the city, or find their way to the city - stay in the city. That is our curse.
Setsuko: I'm not sure I like this...

Gordon: Guests? How unusual. Stay a while, by all means.
Dorothy: Have you seen Roger Smith recently, Gordon Rosewater?
Gordon: Indeed! And we talked to each other. I told him... about my tomatoes. Would you like to listen?
Dorothy: I am not a farming enthusiast.
Gordon: My tomatoes are artificially flavored. This is the only way they can grow in Paradigm, even under this dome. I inject them with flavor - the tomato can only hope it will taste like the original. It is just an imitation. But, if an imitation is perfect enough, doesn't it become indistinguishable from the original?
Setsuko: That's nice... I think.
Gordon: I have words for you, too. You are a tomato that tumbled away its basket. Some of the harvest were lost already... but others are still there. Find the basket and the rest of the harvest, young tomato! Or a mean farmer will decide your fate and your new basket for you.
Setsuko: That sounds ominous... but why all the tomato analogies? Why did you call me a tomato, too?
Gordon: I like growing tomatoes.
Angel: It's me again. This time I come with a message. Setsuko, Alex Rosewater wants to see you.
Setsuko: The king and master of Paradigm City?
Dorothy: He is only the chairman of Paradigm Group. But that means pretty much the same thing.
Angel: I know you may be suspicious, but try to trust me. He wants to help you, too.



Setsuko: What a huge room... even the Titans weren't so grandiose.


Rosewater: Welcome in my humble abode! I am pleased to play host to such charming ladies. Okay, enough of pleasantries. Setsuko Ohara, I know you are not from the city. And that you lost your memory.
Setsuko: Does everyone know me in this city, too?
Rosewater: News travel fast. I only want one thing from you, my dear: if your memories ever return, do you mind sharing them with me? I am extremely curious. And not only that, it will help the city too.

The Big O is an awesome unit. It's tough and especially good on taking down ground targets. But even if it sucked, I'd still use it all the time.
Because it's SO. DAMN. STYLISH.

Beck: That all you got, crow?
Roger: The light of justice will pierce the darkness. Take this!
Beck: Gaah! I still have a trick up my sleeve, you know!
Roger: However, I must point out that your Megadeus does not have sleeves. Also, nobody insults my fashion sense, least of all you. Time for the finishing hit - eeey!

Roger totally did not channel the Fonz there. Also, there's a reason why I waited until my phase to destroy Beck...

Beck: Damn! I won't forget this!

I have three turns (since Schwartzwald appeared, not since the start of the chapter) to destroy all the Archetype mooks, as well as the Mummy boss.

Roger: These Megadei will cause massive damage to the city. There is no helping it - I will show you the Big O's power!

Nevermind that the Big O itself could be called Collateral Damage Bot. The mooks of this stage are not too strong, being mooks and all, although their HP is higher than normal. Still a long way to go compared to Shadow Angels.

Roger: It's SHOWTIME!

Setsuko: That was the last of the "pets"!
Schwartzwald: Are you ready, Roger Smith?
Roger: Schwartzwald, your madness must cease!

Setsuko: Chief's power... it is in my hands now! I will use it against you!
Schwartzwald: Is that all? Is that really all of your real strength? Then, I'll show you the resolve of my own!
Setsuko: Calm down... it's not over yet...
Roger: That's it. Using violence against women is not a policy that Roger Smith will accept! Let's go, Big O - full power impact!
Schwartzwald: Bwahahahahaha! You think you have me here, Roger Smith? I won't be stopped so easily!
Dorothy: It wasn't really a mummy all along.
Setsuko: What? It's real form... was hidden under the bandages?
Roger: The Big O, but... red?
Schwartzwald: Hahaha! That's right. This is a Megadeus not unlike yours. And this will be the tool that will reveal the world the Truth, of what happened 40 years ago! Mine is the drill that will pierce the heavens, so good-bye - off I go!
Roger: It can fly, too! Damn, I can't stop him now... but at least I managed to save a lady in distress. Isn't that right, Dorothy?
Dorothy: Roger Smith, you are a louse.

Intermission time! See me fumble around with parts and upgrades, as I mistake Balgora's mobility for energy, but back out before I make a mistake. Overall, some solid upgrades for both of my available units. It eats up a lot of my credits - and is totally worth it.
